1917 - 2027

110 years of Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Parish.

Kenora, Ontario, Canada.

Fr. John – Ivan Mostivsky

1917

On the shores of Lake of the Woods, a small community with big faith built a home (church) for prayer.

Icons traveled across an ocean. Hopes traveled in wooden trunks. And Saint Nicholas Church became their harbor.

110 years

110 years of Xристос посеред нас (Christ among us)! 110 winters of carols in the cold! 110 springs of Христос Воскрес (Christ is Risen)! 110 harvests of faithfulness!

Baptisms. Weddings. Funerals. Borscht/perogies (вареники)/ caber roll (голубці) suppers festivals. Grandmothers teaching children how properly cross themselves. Priests offering the Divine Liturgies. The church bell calling Kenora to remember died people.

2027

From the first log church to today ---- the language changed, the faces changed, but the Faith did not. Saints Nicholas, protector of sailors and travelers, keep watching over our Parish Family on the water.

May the next generation sing louder! May the doors stay open wider! May God’s mercy cover the next 110!

Многая Літа!

Many years!

From Father John

I am your church.

I am here because you erected me.

I am beautifully situated in your minds. I am the center of your growing community. I will be a cherished landmark to the thousands who will come to my doors in the coming years.

You built me because you knew that your life would be incomplete, that it would not be full without me.

I am your church.

But I am not here simply to adorn; I am here to serve.

Your children and growing youth will come to me to be taught the ways of honesty, industry, morality and religion.

Your brides and groom come to my altar that their wedlock may be hallowed and sweetened by divine blessings.

I am your church.

I comfort you're sick and sorrowing; I bury your dead and offer rest and solace to the weary.

Pardon and peace are my gift to the sin-burned soul, and my message of mercy brings a new life.

To the aged I give courage and peace and cause there to call them blessed.

I am your church.

My doors swing open to all - rich, poor, bonded and free.

My pulpit rings out the message of goodwill, of peace and pardon, and Saviour's love of all.

I teach you the way of life and guide you on the road that leads to heaven.

I am your church.

Make me worthy of your support and concern.

Come, worship with me, and support me, and I will serve you all your days.
