ORANGE SHIRT DAY EVENT IN KENASTON
The Orange Shirt Day Event in honour of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation was a meaningful gathering of community. 🧡

Our day began with coffee, refreshments, Bannock and Jam, provided by Wendy Sekulich and her daughter Trina Gallagher.

🖊️ 📖 Author and storyteller Elizabeth (Merasty) Zdunich delivered an informative and inspirational message as she told the story of her mother’s experience at a Residential School in Saskatchewan. Liz has written a book in Cree and English, complete with historical photographs of her mother and day to day life at the school. The book is titled “kisēwātisi - Be Kind” and is a finalist the 2026 Canadian Children’s Book Centre awards.

As a side note, it is available at McNally Robinson in Saskatoon.

Following the presentation, several attendees participated in a bead work style painting workshop facilitated by Liz. The craft was perfect for all ages.

Boxes of crayons and ‘Orange Shirt Day’ pictures helped to keep the younger set busy!

Lunch was served at noon comprised beef or bison burgers and hot dogs.

🍴 Members of St. Columba and the Seniors kept the food table supplied, while the School Council Members and a few of the Kenaston School teaching staff manned the BBQ and kept the meat roasters filled.
🧺 We are guessing that over 150 folks attended the BBQ!

On Sunday, October 4, we will worship at St. Columba at 10:00am with a service of Morning Prayer led by one of our amazing Lay leaders. We will reflect on Matthew 21:33-46; today’s scripture is about the church becoming a new structure of which Jesus himself is the ‘cornerstone’. The Good News is that we are no longer the old ‘vineyard’. We are the new Israel! Remember, all are loved; all are welcome! Come and see!

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, we will worship at St. Columba at 10:00am with a service of Holy Communion led by the Reverend Susan Anholt. We will reflect on Matthew 21:23-32 as the Pharisees confront Jesus. Their aim is to undermine his authority and unmask him as a pretender. So, they ask, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?". Now, the chief priests and the elders were shrewd politicians, and they knew how to spring a verbal trap. They didn’t care about answer, only whether the answer served their purposes. Remember, all are loved; all are welcome! Come and see!

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, we will worship at St. Columba at 10:00am with a service of Holy Communion led by the Reverend Susan Anholt. This morning we will focus on Matthew 16. We are told that Jesus will lead a revolution — but a very different revolution. On the surface, Jesus will suffer and be rejected but ultimately the cross will become a symbol of hope and life! Because after three days, he will rise again, and a movement called to love, service, and justice will be born. Remember, all are loved; all are welcome and see!
