What if you knew the exact day you were going to die? Would you live differently right now?

That question sits underneath Psalm 90. Moses wrote this prayer after watching an entire generation die in the wilderness. He didn’t dance around it. Our days are numbered. They pass quickly. So instead of avoiding that reality or trying to outrun it with another anti-aging product, he asks God for something better than more time. He asks for wisdom to use the time he already has.

Everyone dies. But through Christ, everyone can live. That’s what changes how we count our days now.

Your job isn’t a distraction from ministry. For some of you, it might be the ministry.

In Exodus 35, God calls out the first person in the whole Bible to get filled with His Spirit. It’s not a prophet. Not a general. It’s a metalworker. Bezalel didn’t get pulled out of his trade for something “more spiritual.” God filled him with the Spirit so he could be exceptional at the trade he already had.

So whatever’s on your plate this week, the spreadsheet, the classroom, the job site, the kitchen, bring it to God as an offering. Not a distraction from one.

Yesterday we shared this liturgy: a prayer for seasons of uncertainty, written by Douglas Kaine McKelvey for the upcoming Every Moment Holy, Vol. II.

We shared it because of the families who’ve been displaced by the wildfires this week.

Home is gone, or might be. Belongings, memories, a sense of “normal,” all suddenly uncertain. For those families, “how this ends” isn’t a metaphor. It’s tonight’s question, and tomorrow’s, and the one after that.

This prayer doesn’t promise the fire won’t come. It promises Who is still there if it does:
“In the midst of whatever follows, O Lord, let me meet your mercies anew, and anew, and anew.”

If you know someone who has been evacuated or lost their home, this is worth praying over them by name today. And if you have room to help practically, shelter, supplies, funds, now is the time.

We’re not built to sit in uncertainty. When God feels silent, something else rushes in to fill the space — the only question is what.

Last Sunday we were in Exodus 32, watching Israel build a golden calf while Moses is still on the mountain. Same story, different props, for us.
