The Same God who Hates Divorce also Hates Cheating, Lying, and Abuse: The purpose of marriage is not simply to avoid divorce. Just because you have avoided divorce for 20 years doesnβt mean that your marriage honors God. The quality of your marriage is as important to God as the permanence of it. God designed marriage to be a lifelong reflection of His selfless love, abiding faithfulness, care, and compassionate service to us. He hates divorce not because He desires for us to stay in toxic, unhealthy, or abusive relationships, but because He knows the pain and brokenness that comes from the tearing apart of such a covenant. In the same way, He hates cheating, lying, and abuse within marriage because they violate the very essence of what marriage is meant to be. Strive to honor God in your marriage by loving each other as He loves us, being faithful to your vows, and treating each other with dignity, respect, and kindness. Remember that the same God who hates divorce also hates any destructive behavior that hurts the people in the marriage and destroys the unity and intimacy that He desires for marriage. God is not just impressed by the number of years you have been married, but also by the quality of your marriage. - Isaac Kubvoruno
