Are you new to the Okanagan or long-standing residents longing for more garden space, getting your hands in the dirt, connecting and cultivating with others and feeding your soul and those who are food insecure?
This is an ideal position for 2 people with a passion for organic gardening, food security and community service. You would serve under the umbrella of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, who leads a partnership of local churches, friends, neighbours and service clubs to steward approximately 1.5 acres of land currently part of the Central Okanagan Land Trust in the Lower Mission.
We grow a variety of vegetables and flowers (from transplants and seeds) and this would be your main focus. We have other individuals who steward the maintenance of several rows of raspberries, blackberries and five cherry trees. The entire garden is outdoors, organic and fully deer fenced. Our lead gardeners are stepping back after 5 years of dedicated service but are available in an advisory role and for your orientation.
A lead gardening team is required to support and encourage volunteers twice weekly on Monday and Thursday mornings, and to tend the garden on 2-3 other flexible days on your own as needed from April to October. Coverage for your vacation time will be provided. In exchange for your efforts, you will be allowed to harvest food for your own household on a weekly basis. Ideally, you will have a knowledge of organic gardening principles and pest control, planting schedules, and irrigation in the Okanagan, as well as, experience teaching and working with volunteers in an inclusive setting. Our produce is distributed to group homes and individuals in Kelowna and is mainly distributed through St. Michael’s Cathedral Food Cupboard for neighbours who are food insecure.
You are not required to be a member of St. Andrew’s to take on this role but are required to work with and report to the leadership team at St. Andrew’s on a regular basis. If the supervisory gardening role is not for you, we are also happy to have you volunteer with us. If you wish to see what we are all about, contact us and we will be happy to arrange a visit to the farm garden.
Please respond with a letter of expression of interest stating your enthusiasm, gardening experience, people skills, and availability to our Farm Garden Communicator, Elaine – [email protected] by May 8th, 2026. If you have any questions, please call St. Andrew’s office, (250) 764-2626.
