Invitation to Municipal & Provincial Elections Candidates

Dear Candidates,

On behalf of the Kamloops Islamic Association, we would like to extend an invitation to all candidates participating in the upcoming municipal & provincial elections to attend our weekly Friday congregation and engage with members of our community.

Our congregation gathers every Friday from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM. To maximize opportunities for interaction, we encourage candidates to arrive by 1:00 PM to meet and speak with community members before the service begins and, if possible, remain after the service concludes at 2:00 PM.

Candidates will be welcome to speak with congregants and discuss their campaign platform, priorities, and vision for our community. To ensure minimal disruption to the religious service, all campaign discussions will take place on the outdoor patio area before and after the congregation.

There is no specific dress code; however, all visitors are respectfully requested to dress modestly, with clothing covering shoulders to knees.

We believe this provides an excellent opportunity for candidates to connect with members of the Muslim community, listen to their concerns, and share their plans for the future of Kamloops and BC.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَىٰ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ
-O Allah, send Your blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever sends salah upon me once, Allah (SWT) will send salah upon him tenfold." ( Sunan an-Nasai 1296).

The Kamloops Islamic Association strongly condemns the hateful acts of vandalism, threats, and Islamophobic targeting at the Fleetwood Islamic Centre in Surrey, BC.

We stand in solidarity with the NCCM, Fleetwood Islamic Academy Society, its congregation, and the broader Muslim community during this difficult time. Places of worship must remain safe spaces for prayer, reflection, and community, free from intimidation, hatred, and discrimination.

As Canadians, we are united by values of respect, inclusion, and mutual understanding. We call upon community leaders, organizations, elected officials and residents across British Columbia to stand together against all forms of hate and to promote peaceful coexistence.
