Today we joyously celebrate the Great Feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos (Ευαγγελισμός της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου)

Today marks the crowning of our salvation and the revelation of the mystery before all ages. For the Son of God becomes the son of the Virgin, and Gabriel proclaims the grace. Wherefore, we also cry out with him, "Hail, O full of grace, the Lord is with you."

ANNA (NÉE GEORGANDOPOULOU) GONIDIS 1939 — 2026
ANNA (NÉE GEORGANDOPOULOU) GONIDIS

May 1, 1939 – February 11, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Gonidis (née Georgandopoulou) on February 11, 2026, in Kamloops, British Columbia, at the age of 86.

Anna was born on May 1, 1939, in Greece to her loving parents, Niko and Dimitra. In 1963, she immigrated to Canada with her beloved husband, Costandinos, seeking a better life and new opportunities. The early years in Canada were not easy, but through hard work, determination, and faith, they built a life together that eventually became home.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kathy (Kelly) McGonigal; her cherished granddaughter, Portiaa McGonigal; her sisters, Eleni and Eleftheria; her nieces and nephew, Filinda, Dimitra, Taxiarhy, and Katerina; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Anna was predeceased by her parents, her husband Costandinos, her brother, and her dear best friend.

Anna was a generous and loving woman who embraced life fully. She found her greatest joy in time spent with family and friends, and her warmth, kindness, and strength will be remembered by all who knew her.

May her memory be eternal.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 19, at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on 1044 8th Street in Kamloops. Viewing will begin at 10:00a.m., followed by the Service at 10:30a.m. Burial will follow, with a light lunch and time of remembrance to be held in the church basement afterward.

For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at: rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2

“O Lord and Master of my life...", the familiar prayer of humility said during Great Lent, comes to us from the Monk Ephrem the Syrian (Jan 28/ Feb 10) a most humble teacher of repentance of the 4th century. In his youth he was the disciple of Saint James, Bishop of Nisibis, one of the 318 Fathers at the First Ecumenical Council. He was an ardent student and sought-after teacher of Holy Scripture as well as composer of many prayers and hymns which have enriched Church's Divine-services.

Saint Ephrem “accepted only the dignity of deacon, in which he remained until death.” Saint Basil the Great “once invited the Monk Ephrem to accept the cathedra-chair of a bishop, but the saint feigned folly to avoid for himself this honour, in humility reckoning himself unworthy of it.”

Today we joyously celebrate the Great Feast of the Theophany of Our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ (Αγία Θεοφάνεια)

And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:17)
