KUC seeks to be an active community of faith in the Mohawk territory of Kahnawake that promotes justice, lives spiritually, welcomes all, and reaches out to our neighbours, with compassion. We worship together and via Zoom every Sunday at 10:30 AM in our beautiful historical stone church, and on special services such as Christmas Eve. We use both English and Mohawk language in the services, (thoug
h you don't have to know them both to come). The service follows a traditional Protestant format, with contemporary theology, a mix of old and new music, and creative ways to engage our faith. Leadership is provided by Robert Patton, Congregational Designated Minister, and the Reverend Jan Jorgensen, organist Marlene Scott, and members of the congregation. While we don't have a separate Sunday School at the moment, children are most welcome to join in services, and craft supplies and toys are provided for busy fingers and active minds. As well as regular services and programs, we often provide pastoral care to members of the wider Kahnawake community. This includes, but is not limited to, funerals, baptisms, hospital visits, spiritual direction, historic church record research, and designing services or rituals to mark special occasions and life passages (such as a wedding or welcoming new family). Because of Covid our visiting is limited at this time. Again because of the pandemic, our regular fundraising / community fellowship events such as the fall Christmas bazaar, summer picnic, and golf tournaments have had to be postponed. We participate in wider community events such as Remembrance Day, the annual cemetery service (September), World Day of Prayer, and community or cultural celebrations as is possible. KUC is part of the United Church of Canada - a union between Presbyterians, Methodists and Congregationalist which was established in 1925. Within the United Church, we are members of the Indigenous Church, as well as members of Conseil regional Nakonha:ka Regional Council. While KUC is rooted in the Christian tradition and protestant faith, we welcome interfaith families. We understand spirituality to be much broader than any one tradition, and celebrate our connections with other traditions in the community.
