VISION STATEMENT

๐ŸŒฟ Be Still, and Know
๐Ÿ“– Psalm 46

When the world feels uncertain, the chaos doesnโ€™t stop, and fear threatens to take hold, God gives us a surprising command: โ€œBe still, and know that I am God.โ€

But being still isnโ€™t about finding a way to calm ourselves down or pretending the chaos isnโ€™t real. Itโ€™s about releasing our grip, surrendering our striving, and remembering who God is.

He is our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in trouble. The world may shake, but He remains unshaken.

Join us this Sunday, October 25th at Island FMC as we explore Psalm 46 and discover why we can be still, even when life isnโ€™t.

What makes heaven celebrate?

A lost sheep found. A lost coin recovered. A lost son welcomed home.

In Luke 15, Jesus gives us a glimpse into the heart of God. He doesnโ€™t simply tolerate the return of the lost, He rejoices!

And that joy comes with an invitation.

If youโ€™re far from God, you can come home. If youโ€™ve already found your way to Him, you can share His joy when others do too.

You donโ€™t have to earn your place at the Fatherโ€™s table.

God celebrates and youโ€™re invited.

Why was Jesus eating with sinners? Because the lost mattered to Him. โค๏ธ

In Luke 15, the religious leaders criticize Jesus for welcoming sinners. So He tells them stories about things that were lost and the joy of finding them again.

God doesnโ€™t just want the lost to be found. He celebrates when they come home! Jesus came to seek the lost, restore what was broken, and bring people back to God.

And when someone turns to Him, heaven rejoices!

God does not see lost people as problems. He sees them the way a shepherd sees a missing sheep, the way a father sees a son still far down the road. With urgency. With passion. With a joy that spills over into celebration the moment they are found.

In Luke 15, Jesus answers the Pharisees not with an argument but with three stories. Each one builds toward the same truth: the Father celebrates when the lost are found, and He invites us to celebrate with Him.

The question is whether we will come inside. Will we join the Fatherโ€™s joy, or will we stand at the door counting what we are owed?

God celebrates. And you are invited.

To a world driven by efficiency, numbers, and writing off what is broken, the Parable of the Lost Sheep sounds completely reckless. Luke 15

But God doesnโ€™t view humanity as a vague crowd. He knows you completely, and He pursues you personally.

You donโ€™t have to fix yourself up before you turn back to Him. The Good Shepherd is already looking for you.

We spend so much time trying to be good enough, do enough, and prove ourselves worthy. But grace doesnโ€™t work that way.

In Mark 10:13-16, Jesus reminds us of the importance of coming to Him with the simple trust and dependence of a child. We donโ€™t earn His grace. We receive it.

Come to Him with empty hands. โค๏ธ

Children donโ€™t lift their hands to be picked up by Mom or Dad because theyโ€™ve earned it. They simply reach out, trusting they will be received.

In Mark 10:13-16, Jesus uses the example of children to teach us something profound about receiving the kingdom of God. It is not about what we have earned, how good we have been, or what we bring to the table. It is about coming to Him with open hands, free from the idea that we must prove ourselves worthy.

Grace cannot be earned. It can only be received.

We donโ€™t come to Jesus with a resume of good works or a reputation to defend. We come empty-handed, trusting in His goodness rather than our own merit.

Just as a child reaches for a parentโ€™s embrace, may we come to Jesus with that same simple dependence, ready to receive what we could never earn.

What does it mean to truly receive something from God?

In Mark 10, Jesus welcomes children with open arms and reminds us of a profound truth about the kingdom of God.

Children donโ€™t negotiate their way into a parentโ€™s arms. They donโ€™t have to prove their worthiness. They simply stretch out their hands and are received.

Jesus shows us that the kingdom of God is not earned, achieved, or deserved. It is received with empty hands and an open heart.

What might you be holding onto that keeps you from receiving His grace? God meets us right where we are and invites us to let go and trust Him.
