As the sun starts to rise above the horizon,
I thank you, God, for the day that is to come.
For the students heading off to school,
masks on faces, lunches in backpacks,
excited to see their friends,
wondering about what they're going to be learning,
and (maybe!) a bit nervous about the new -
especially after last year's bouncing
between face-to-face and online study.
May your love support them in all they do.
I pray for the teachers,
the administrators,
the educational assistants,
the maintenance workers,
the school councillors,
the caretakers and cleaners,
the afterschool program runners,
the drivers of busses,
the guardians of crosswalks,
and the many more -
the people who help the children on their way.
As they mask up for today's work,
as they prepare for the rush of feet,
and the wandering of minds,
as they get ready to reach out
to help a myriad of learners,
may they be bouyed up by your wonder,
may they be renewed by your joy,
may they face the day,
ready to help growing minds,
and rushing bodies,
supported by your love.
In the name of my Teacher,
I ask these things.
Amen.
