Donald Howard Kerr, of Hanover passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026 in his 92nd year at the Village Seniors Community.

Don lived in Hanover for most of his life and many will remember him from his time working at IGA and A&P as a meat cutter. He was a dedicated volunteer fireman with the Hanover Fire Department.

Remembered by his children Barb (John) Stevenson, Dawn (Harold) Heibein and Dan (Susie) Kerr. Loved poppa of nine and eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Fondly remembered by his siblings Karen Waechter, Elaine Kerr, (Karen), Larry Kerr and his nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents Howard and Susan (nee Greenwood) Kerr, beloved wife Shirley (nee Weis) (2004), grandson Devon (2021), sister "Tootsie" Verna (Louis) Whaling, brothers Murray (Margaret) Kerr, Gary Kerr, and in laws Joe Waechter, and Margaret Kerr.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 11:00 am. Inurnment in Hanover Cemetery. All are welcome. Please feel free to bring your lawn chairs.

Special thanks to the Staff of The Village LTC for the excellent care and compassion that was shown to Dad over the past 10 months and to Drs. Lassaline and Eckensweiler for their excellent care.

Memorial donations to the Hanover Fire Department, CMHA, Hanover Hospital or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca

The fun folks at Grace United Church in Hanover Ontario invite you to join our chimes group and choir. Youth and adults of all ages are welcome to join. We range in abilities from singing along when we know the tune, to well trained musicians. Everyone is welcome! Our fabulous accompanist Yuki Okumoto Stocovaz always helps us sound amazing.

There is no cost to join but you are welcome to make a donation to the church. We also ask for a commitment to attend rehearsals and Sunday service. The choir has every third Sunday off and we rehearse most Thursday evenings.

Cecil Graham Schmitt, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at Hanover and District Hospital on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. He was 98.

Born on August 31, 1927 in Hanover to the late William and Edith (nee Chittick) Schmitt. Cecil was born and raised in Hanover and enjoyed farming. His hands were rough from the fields but always gentle enough to pick up any instrument to play. He especially enjoyed playing the harmonica as well as the guitar, violin and banjo. Many will remember Cecil and his bandmates when they would play various gigs around Hanover. He was a faithful member of Grace United Church and will be remembered for his beautiful voice in the choir.

Survived by sons Larry (Anne) Schmitt of Kitchener and Brian (Sherry) Schmitt of Hanover. Loved grandpa of Christopher (Melissa), Kelly Mercy-Smith Jr and Victoria Smith. Special great grandpa of Kieran and Samantha. Cecil will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and their families on the Johnston side. Predeceased by his parents and beloved wife Dorothy (nee Johnston) Schmitt.

Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 10-10:45am where a Funeral will commence at 11:00 am. Pastor Lyndsay McGregor officiating. Interment in Hanover Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Grace United Church or to the Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Special thanks to all the nurses and staff who took good care of dad at both McVean Lodge and Hanover Hospital. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca
