Small Church With a Big Heart
Crawford United Church is a small country church that for years was the heart and soul of the Crawford community. Situated right in the village of Crawford since 1878, the Church provided not only Christian leadership but was also the centre of the rural community’s social life. The church was the place were major community events took place.
This has been changing over the last number of years and, in many cases, the church no longer functions as the centre of community life. Even though our church membership has been declining over the years, Crawford United remains a dynamic part of local church and community events. While our regular services are attended mainly by our own members, our special services attract many residents from the Crawford community. Our small, but gifted, choir performs at the special services under the direction of our exceptionally talented music director, 14 year-old Azrael Hackshaw.
Church members are a compassionate group and generously support local organisations such as: Durham and Hanover Food Banks, School Breakfast Programs, Alzheimer’s Society of Grey-Bruce, ChildCan (an organisation that supports families dealing with the heart-break of childhood cancer), the Good Samaritan Shoe Box program, sick and shut-in church and community members, and more. Since church members live in the community they are in tune with what is happening, ready to respond to genuine need.
People from Crawford and the larger community look forward to our Annual July Garden Party (119th in 2020 if life has returned to normal by then) and our Harvest Breakfast in October.
