Scripture tells us that everything created by God is good, especially when sanctified by the Word of God and prayer (1 Timothy 4:4-5). Therefore, as we move into the New Year and toward Epiphany, consider asking Pastor to come by for a house blessing.

In a house blessing, the name of God is invoked in blessing upon a home and all who dwell there. Then, going room by room, Scripture is read in the hearing of those dwelling there, and prayers are offered for the consecration of the home to the Lord. This was at one time a common pastoral practice in the Church.

More information about house blessings can be found in the article below:

šŸ“– Blessing a home

šŸ—£ ā€œThe times they are a-changin’.ā€ Over the last 20 years, most every pastor has had people come with complaints of strange phenomena occurring in their home, especially at night. It seems since the advent of Rationalism and the scientific method, we all forgot that Satan and his minions are out there. However, in the last 50+ years, as Western society has broadly turned away from the Lord and His Church, the days are such that the Word of God and the name of God (through Holy Baptism) are no longer in the ears and hearts of people. This affords the evil one the opportunity for mischief, mayhem, and misery.

šŸ™ ā€œWhat God Has Joined Togetherā€ conference āœļø

KITCHENER, Ont. – From May 9-11, 2025, around 110 Christians from all stages of life gathered again at Grace Lutheran Church for the second ā€œWhat God Has Joined Togetherā€ conference. Families, married couples, and single folks from across Ontario—and a few from the United States—gathered for lectures, worship, and joyful fellowship as they were fed in body and in wisdom from God’s Word šŸ“–

Rev. Dr. Adam Koontz, Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Oakmont, Pennsylvania, was the guest lecturer at this year’s conference. He thoughtfully and scripturally made the case for four gifts from God in marriage and in life: the blessing of children; the importance of the wisdom of elders; sanctification and growth in marriage; and the blessing of being a burden, particularly in old age. Rev. Koontz also preached about the gifts of marriage during two Divine Services held over the weekend, over which Rev. Rob Korsch presided.

The organizers give thanks to the Lord for the success of the event, and especially for the many hands that were involved in its organization and ex*****on.

šŸ‘‰ If you missed the conference and are interested in listening to the lectures, they were recorded and uploaded to Rev. Koontz’s podcast, at www.abriefhistoryofpower.com as episodes 300 and 301.

ā›Ŗļø 100th anniversary of Redeemer in Hamilton

šŸ—£ ā€œ2023 marked Redeemer’s 100th year as a congregation, and the congregation marked the anniversary with a luncheon cruise down the Grand River in Caledonia. On a sunny Saturday, August 19, the group boarded a boat and were served a delicious lunch while cruising the Grand River, with the captain giving them highlights along the way. Rev. Kevin Walrath took the guests on a walk down memory lane through the ten decades of Redeemer with his handy assistant ā€œVanna Whiteā€ (Carol Walrath).

What a history it is indeed: from a small storefront on Ottawa St. N to its present location, though many pastors and many vacancies, Redeemer has persisted to the glory of God.ā€

Dear members,

It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to our beloved pastor, Aaron Astley, who has served us faithfully for the past seven(plus!) years. As he leaves us to begin a new chapter of his ministry in Ottawa, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for all that he has done for us.

Aaron has been a guiding light in our spiritual journeys, always there to offer comfort, support, and encouragement when we needed it most. He has preached the word of God with passion and conviction, leading us to a deeper understanding of our faith and inspiring us to live our lives with purpose and meaning.

Throughout his time with us, Aaron has been a constant presence, helping to build a strong and vibrant community that will continue to thrive long after his departure. He has touched the lives of so many, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

As Aaron begins this new chapter of his life, we want to offer him our sincerest best wishes. May God bless him and his family as they embark on this new journey, and may he continue to guide and inspire those around him.

Thank you, Pastor Astley, for your unwavering dedication, your tireless efforts, and your steadfast faith. You have been a true blessing to us all, and we will miss you dearly.

With love and gratitude,

Redeemer Lutheran Church

Please note: Services will continue at the regular date and time.

St. Patrick: From Slave to Preacher

When Patrick was a teenager, he was kidnapped during a raid on Britain and taken to Ireland to serve as a slave. After six years in captivity, he escaped, made his way back home, and eventually was ordained into the priesthood.

Then God, in his ironic way, sent Patrick back into the land of his former captivity to proclaim the freedom of the Gospel.

The boy who had been a slave was used by Christ to bring his word of salvation and life to a people who had been living in the darkness of pagan unbelief.

In Patrick we see the Lord of life at work, as we see him at work in our own lives. The God who can take a slave who seemed destined for nothing but death, and use his life to bring wisdom and light and salvation to the lives of so many others—this same God can and does work in our own lives.

We may seem destitute of hope, but the hope of Christ is stronger than our weakness. As he was for Patrick, so he will be for us: our companion in suffering, our life in death, our resurrection in the grave, and the Lord who uses us in his own way to bring blessings into the lives of others.

A fitting reminder as we enter into 2023, from C. F. W. Walther:

šŸ—£ Now then, all of you who believe in God’s Word, let your watchword for entering the new year be this: ā€œI am baptized!ā€ Although the world may laugh at this comfort, the enthusiasts vex its confidence . . . nevertheless, abandon any other dearly held pledges and speak only throughout the entire year to come, in all terrors of conscience and necessity through sin and death: ā€œI am baptized! I am baptized! Hallelujah!ā€ And you shall prevail! In every time of need, you will find comfort in your Baptism; on account of it Satan will flee from your faith and confession; and in death you will see heaven opened and will finally come into the joy of your Lord to celebrate a great year of jubilee, a year of praise, with all the angels forever and ever. Amen!
