TrueCity is a network of congregations in Hamilton, ON who recognize God has called us to join Him in His mission to bring His best to our city and beyond. As we have journeyed together since 2004, our congregations have learned that we need to simultaneously pursue mission at a congregational level, at a collaborative Church-in-the-City level, and as God’s people scattered daily across all sectors of our city.

Our final Pastors Gathering of this ministry year happened last Wednesday and it was great to have so many familiar (and NEW!) friends join us. Being in the same room and spending time with each other around tables to discuss, connect and pray is always a gift, and we’re excited to see what God is going to do as we continue to discover ways to be churches together for the good of this city.

The TrueCity Leadership Team is delighted to introduce Alice Plug-Buist as our next Network Developer.

A longtime resident of Hamilton, Alice is well known across the city for her passion for serving “the least of these” and helping Christians grow in their love for God and neighbour. She will be wrapping up her time later this summer as the Executive Director for Helping Hands Street Mission, and she also has extensive leadership experience as a board member of City Housing Hamilton, the Barton Village BIA, and Indwell.

“It’s an incredible honour and joy for me to take on the role with TrueCity. Jesus prayed for me and for all of us just before he went to the cross, and his prayer as that we would be “together”, so that the world might know that God sent Jesus. I am excited to take up the task of encouraging churches across Hamilton to find ways to work together, toward the greatest good of our City.”

We believe the Lord has brought Alice into this role for such a time as this, as we believe her experience in leadership, giftings, passion, and heart for cultivating unity will help the network continue to mature and thrive as Churches Together for the Good of the City.

This Friday evening we will have the opportunity to celebrate Pentecost together with others in the city. Coming together and worshipping God in the same room with others is always a sweet experience, and we hope you can join us.

(Don’t forget to bring some new pairs of socks and underwear for Philpott’s “Church at the Table” ministry, as well as some treats to share with each other at the “Snackluck” immediately following the worship service).

We are getting excited for next Friday’s Pentecost Worship Evening at Philpott and we’re looking forward to worshipping in song together. The two churches that we are focussing our prayers on in May is Little Bethel Community Church and The Meeting Place. We love that these two churches are part of the TrueCity family here in Hamilton and are honoured to be able to pray for them as they both discern practical ways to best love the neighbours who are around them.

Getting excited about our Pentecost Worship Evening. We’re bringing back the “Snackluck” and would love to overwhelm Philpott’s “Church at the Table” ministry with loads of NEW pairs of socks and underwear. It’s going to be a great time together and we hope you can join us.

We had our last TrueCity Connectors meeting last night before the summer and just had to do something special for Dave as he prepares to transition out of his role later this spring as TrueCity’s Network Developer. He has been a gift to all of us in so many ways and we are thankful for his steady and faithful presence and influence, and it was an honour to be able to celebrate and bless him last night as a group.

We are so excited to gather together as churches to celebrate Pentecost (a little early). Please plan to join us at Philpott’s new building (160 King St E) at 7pm on Friday, May 22 for a Pentecost Worship Night.

And as well as enjoying the blessing of coming together to worship our Heavenly Father, we also want to use this gathering to bless some neighbours who are in need. We are inviting you to bring BRAND NEW pairs of adult underwear and/or socks that can be shared with those who come to Philpott’s weekly “Church at the Table” ministry. We’d love to overwhelm Philpott Church (in a good way!), so please consider what you can bring as we gather for this time of worship together.
