Our Father in heaven, on this Father’s day, thank you for the many wonderful fathers of this world. Thank you for men who are using their strength to provide for and raise children in the Lord with firmness of conviction and gentleness of heart, not provoking their children to anger but bringing them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. We praise you for fathers who really do consider children and grandchildren a heritage from the Lord, and show this in practical ways. Thank you for dads. Encourage them. Wrap your arms around them. We see them, we love them, and so do you.
For those fathers who are struggling in their task as dads, we pray for strength, for perseverance, for the ability to prioritize their children. For fathers who would like to spend more time with their children but have been cut out from their lives or marginalized within their own families, we pray for comfort today, and for faithfulness and persistence in the role and opportunities they do have to sow seeds, encourage, love and urge their children to live lives worthy of God.
Lord we pray for those who had or have a Dad who was not or is not loving or caring. Protect them, heal wounds, and give them grace to break generational sin. Remind them that you are a heavenly father, who does not share the sin of earthly fathers.
Be with those who wish they could be father’s but to whom you have not granted that wish. Until you decide to fill their arms with a child, fill their hearts with your love, and help them to bless the children of the world.
Lord, some of us have lost a father, and there is an empty spot in our hearts and families. May we remember and grieve well, honouring our fathers even in death, may the bitter loss be mixed with beautiful memories, may the sowing of tears produce flowers of gratitude.
Thank you Lord for fathers. Thank you for the privilege of calling you Father, in Jesus name. Amen.
