Samudra Kadampa Buddhist Centre

Samudra Kadampa Buddhist Centre Samudra Kadampa Buddhist Centre is registered charity and a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – Int Classes usually run from 7-9 pm.

Meditation classes are open for anyone to attend and are designed to accommodate every level of meditation experience. The main focus is to help you develop a daily meditation practice so that you can achieve inner peace. Samudra Centre offers two distinct meditation class programs. The General Program (GP) introduces basic and advanced meditation practice. The usual format consists of a teaching

on various spiritual subjects, followed by questions and answers, refreshments, and a guided meditation. The teaching functions to present Buddhist wisdom in a practical way, applicable to real life situations, that everyone can implement and benefit from. In this way, our meditation practice is supported by new ways of thinking and behaving in daily life. Various courses and subjects are offered throughout the year. No registration is required and you are free to join the program at anytime. There is a fee of $10 per class in order to cover costs. Foundation Program (FP) provides an opportunity for formal, structured study. The focus is on gaining advanced meditation experience and integrating Buddhist philosophy into day to day situations. Registration and abiding by certain commitments are required. For more information see the Foundation Program web page. Attending the General Program is recommended as a preparation for joining this program. Buddhist meditation practice has a centuries old history of effectively reducing and eliminating stress, fear, anger, anxiety and depression. If we think deeply, we shall realize that gaining lasting inner peace is the most valuable quality that we could ever develop.

Today, June 4th, is Dharmachakra Day — Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day — one of the most precious days in our Kadampa calendar.

On this day we hold two celebrations in our hearts as one.

We celebrate the immeasurable kindness of Buddha Shakyamuni, who at the request of the gods Brahma and Indra, gave his very first teaching — the Sutra of the Four Noble Truths — in the Deer Park at Sarnath in India. Because of Buddha's limitless compassion in turning the Wheel of Dharma in this world, countless living beings over two and a half thousand years have been guided away from suffering and toward pure and everlasting happiness. It is only because of Buddha's example and his teachings that we now have the methods to attain full enlightenment.

UNSURPASSED KINDNESS

And on this same precious day, we celebrate the birthday of our dear Spiritual Guide, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche — through whose extraordinary kindness those methods have been made available to each and every one of us.

TOMORROW: The Spiritual Science of Meditation: Harness the Power of Your Mind.

The practice of meditation can either focus on mitigating the concerns of this current life, or focus on the welfare of future lives. The former lacks a true spiritual motivation. The latter is a spiritual wisdom of immense importance. Lives follow in succession and in this life we create the causes that will produce effects in future lives.

The science of meditation is creating causes for immense good fortune in the future. It is quite possible to experience this fortune in this current life. However, our practice of meditation must become very strong and pure for this to happen. If we accomplish such a result our meditation practice it will definitely bring fulfillment of our wish for lasting happiness.
