It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved longtime parishioner, Agnes Boghossian.

Agnes was a devoted and longstanding member of St. Mary Armenian Church. Throughout the years, she faithfully served our community in many capacities, including as a delegate, Parish Council Chairperson, and active member of our church. Her dedication, service, and love for our church family will always be remembered with gratitude and affection.

The funeral services will take place in Kitchener, at Henry Walser Funeral Home - Funeral and Cremation Services.

Address: 507 Frederick St, Kitchener, ON N2B 2A5

For those who wish to participate in the services, we will meet at St. Mary Armenian Church at 5:00 p.m. on Monday to share rides for the 7:00 p.m. prayer service.

We will meet again at 8:40 a.m. for those attending the 10:30 a.m. prayer service and burial, and we will coordinate shared rides from the church.

If you would like to attend and need a ride, or if you are able to offer a ride, please call or text Fr. Hrant to help organize transportation.

Dear Parishioners,

Due to the passing of our beloved parishioner, Garabet (Garo) Thomasian, there will be no lunch celebration following this Sunday's Divine Liturgy.

We will have the Blessing of the Grapes, followed by a Sunday School children's program in honor of the Feast of St. Mary.

Coffee and dessert will be served afterward.

Thank you for your understanding.

Garabet Thomasian
May 7, 1947 – July 31, 2026

The Parish Priest, Parish Council, and parishioners of St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church of Hamilton extend their deepest sympathies to the Thomasian and Andonian families on the passing of our beloved parishioner, Garabet Thomasian. We pray that our Lord grant rest to his soul and strengthen his family with His peace, comfort, and consolation during this difficult time. May his memory be eternal.

* * *

It is with profound sadness that the family of Garabet Thomasian announces his sudden and unexpected passing on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the age of 79.

Garabet was the beloved husband of Anahid Thomasian for 42 years. He was a devoted father to Talene (Paul) and Raffi (Émeline). A proud and loving Metz baba to Elizabeth, Tabitha, Alexander and Hugo ("Bean Jr.") he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Varso (Boghos), Haig (Germaine) and Anahid (Edmond), and will be lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family, many dear friends, and neighbours.

Garabet was a dedicated tool and die maker whose exceptional work ethic and skill were evident throughout his career. He channeled his deep intelligence into his trade, always reading and learning more about all things mechanical. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending summers in his garden.

Proud of his Armenian heritage and steadfast in his faith, Garabet lived a life guided by duty, integrity, and devotion to his family. He worked tirelessly to ensure his loved ones were always supported and cared for. His sense of deep responsibility and quiet generosity leave a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home – Fennell Chapel, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary's Armenian Church, 8 Mayhurst Avenue, Hamilton, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Hamilton Cemetery, Rymal Road East, Hamilton.

For those who wish, memorial donations to St. Mary's Armenian Church would be appreciated by the family. Donations may be made by e-transfer to [email protected].

Vartavar Celebration & Annual Picnic

On Sunday, July 12, the faithful of St. Mary Armenian Church of Hamilton joyfully celebrated the Feast of Vartavar. Following the Divine Liturgy, our parish family gathered for our much-anticipated Annual Picnic, enjoying a wonderful afternoon of fellowship, delicious food, laughter, and community.

One of the highlights of the day was a special surprise visit from the Hamilton Firefighters, who delighted our children by bringing one of their fire trucks and spending time with them. Their generosity and kindness made the day even more memorable, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Hamilton Fire Department for helping create such joyful memories for our young parishioners.

Throughout the afternoon, everyone enjoyed an exciting raffle, with many lucky winners taking home wonderful prizes. As the day continued, anticipation grew for the moment everyone had been waiting for—the traditional Vartavar water games! Children and adults alike joined in the fun, joyfully splashing one another with water, celebrating this beloved Armenian tradition with great enthusiasm.

The day was filled with faith, fellowship, and the spirit of our Armenian Christian heritage. We thank all of our volunteers, donors, organizers, and participants whose hard work and generosity made this beautiful celebration possible. May God bless everyone who contributed to making our Vartavar celebration and Annual Picnic such a joyful success.
