The second thing you need is a functioning website. Who are You? Building address, email address, preferably .com and updated every week. Then start with the people you have and start addressing who you want to reach and music style.
Now get a page. You can learn how that can work with announcement and a 32-3 minute video of the best part of the sermon.
With music, you have to decide what demographic you want to reach and what music will work for that group. What I have done is having 5 hymns or songs for each age group, Start with a quick one, then one for the people 20-35, then 35-55 and one for the older group. Last one needs to be a gospel call type song.
Now, the last thing in this post: Find some fellow in the group you have right now who will be your Greeter. He needs to be outgoing and can approach new people with ease.
Next week we will talk about how to a great greeter.
If you have any specific question, Just ask.

Have a wonderful Sunday tomorrow.

Knowing what to do first.

The first thing a church needs to do is start praying. Not to ask for things or give God a list. We need to pray, "Lord, I'm here, what do you need me to do."
He will give you something to do. He has already given you your gift. I know this because so, so many times in my life when I didn't know what to do, I just asked Him.
When I received an inquiry to go and lead a church in northern Ontario, I was working at the steel mill. When I got to work one night I, and that was the problem. I tried to make it work. After about an hour of working how I could do both the daily work and the church, I ripped the paper and said, "God can you make it work?" He did.
We all have those moments we just need to learn when to give up trying and let God tell us what He wants us to do.

Shalom

Recently I heard Alister Begg say something very profound. He said, it’s not about “I”, but it’s about Him. Sure, we have done this and that in our Christian lives. You and I know we have to accept God’s forgiveness. It’s about asking the Messiah into our lives etc.But there is more to it.

When I first accepted Christ, it was in an old, old church in the middle of Hamilton. As I recollect, it was Wesley United Church. The congregation may have moved into the suburbs and ‘Youth for Christ’ had their weekly meeting on Saturday Evening.

There was a wonderful service each evening and very diverse in nature. That particular night there was a movie about Roy Rodgers and Dale Evens. They talked about their life and how Jesus changed them and forgave them. As the movie ended, Roy said one more thing that transformed my life. They asked if I would take the free gift of being forgiven and believe.

I literally ran to the front and did just that. You see it was all about Him. Jesus taught us and my ‘red letter’ bible told what He said, and how He was God’s Son who had come to earth to take our sins away. He was the one who took my punishment for my sins. Jesus took the nails; He paid the price and died on the cross. And He rose to new life so we can have that place in heaven.

When all this goes together and we stand in front of God, He may ask us why we are there. Our only answer is not I did this and that but; ‘Jesus said. “come, I have prepared a place for you”’

Something to think about.

Rob

As Alistair Begg would say: 'Because HE'…not 'because I'.

Did you realize that we can make a difference in this world? It’s true. And the best way to do this is to change ourselves. The bible tell us we can do this by just working on changing ourselves. It tells us to conform ourselves into the likeness of Christ.

Simple, right? Not. Many of us have endeavoured to change ourselves and not done a great job in this. You see, we think that to do it you have to go big or go home. It doesn’t work that way. How it works is following the word of a well known hymn that goes like this; “One day at a time sweet Jesus. . .”.

There are times when we work to transform our lives and we decide to do it in a grand scale. Yes, it does happen, sometimes, but more times then not, it happens when we take baby steps. Have you ever lived with a child and they grow, with us not noticing it. That’s the same with us as we grow into the image of God.

Oh sure, just over a week ago we decided to make resolutions to be more like Him. We might even make lists of change only to have already forgotten them. We get disheartened and slip back to our old selves. Don’t look for great change. Look more like Him. Put Him in your heart and all the rest of you will show a difference.

What I purpose for you and for me is to make small changes in who we are and how we live the Christian life. Over time it will happen without us noticing much in the short term. Start with something small and insignificant. Let it be something that grows into being who we are becoming. Smile more, hum a new hymn each morning, and even look in the mirror early in the morning and tell yourself, “it’s going to be a great day”.

God knows us better than we do ourselves. He holds us in His hand and we need to realize that He molded us and makes us. He gave us a heart that sought after Him and He is still looking for the change in us that lets the world know God is in the business of changing us into His image one day at a time. "That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection".

Something to think about.

This can be your start in building the church.

If you are like most people you might be thinking you’re doing pretty well. Your living a good life and trying not to do things wrong. You say to yourself, you are a pretty good person, (ready) in light of how I see many other people. Sometimes we even compare ourselves to other people who say they are Christians just like us' or almost like us. At times many people compare themselves to other. And I have to admit I might have done it on occasion. He forgave me for that. And when we do compare, it is either to say we are better than them or say, I’m glad I’m not like them. Either way, comparisons in the chart of God’s standard. Well, let’s just stop there.

Here is the verse for this week as we think about thanking God for the life we have. Better still the life we have with Him. 2 Timothy 2:15 ‘Study to show yourself approved unto God’. I remember that verse from my childhood. Back then I too thought I was good, comparatively speaking. Now I know better.

Most of us separate ourselves by asking, “In the whole scheme of things, I think I’m doing well. But that is not what this verse tells us. Just like I have done many times we all ask, “God, how am I doing?” We can’t earn heaven, it’s a gift. But get serious for a moment, how are we really doing. Does God approve of who I am and what constitutes our own personal lives? If it’s no, it’s no. If it’s yes, it’s yes and if it’s maybe, than we have some work to do.

This is what I know, Thank God for the changes He has made in our lives but continue to look for His approval. Not the approval of others. I remember when I started to do woodwork; I always wanted my father's the master carpenter, approval. You see, the truth is, if we have His approval, than our lives will reflect God and people will notice we have something they need and that is, His forgiveness and His presence in our whole life.

Just to make sure most of you know what is going on in the Christian community. More ministers have resigned, or retired or just walked away from ministry in these last two years than at any other time. And they are not coming back.
Church is totally different today and some didn't have the drive to make the changes to continue doing ministry with the new paradigm. When this change came on Mar 12 I thought I was the first pastor to record the sermon and have it on line for that Sunday morning. I'm old but I was grinning and baring it. Why, because when God calls a person to ministry, they should know that God will be there with them in thick and thine.
More so now than at any other time, the church needs to be reaching out to a world that does not have any home for their future.

Don't forget, Jesus said, " I will be with you, even to the end of the age." He is not walking away, and neither am I.

Have a great week. Peace Rob

Morning Everyone: I did not disappear off Facebook. Just regrouping. I just read the blog by Chuck Lawless this morning and realize that it is what I have been sharing with those who read this post.
I am still here ready and willing to help pastors & churches that seem to be struggling in these unforeseen times. If you need someone to talk to, just drop me a note: [email protected]
With our shut down in Ontario, now is the time to start the conversation, and plan for the future.
God still wants to call the world to Himself and that includes in your church.

See if something here fits in defining you.
Have a great week.
Peace / Shalom
Pastor Rob

Chuck Lawless
I’ve been a church consultant for more than 20 years. My wife and I have closed our company, the Lawless Group, to join the Church Answers consulting team, and I remain excited about the possibilities of our helping struggling churches. I’ve learned, though, that not every consultation leads toward health and renewal, particularly in these cases:

1. When nobody’s praying about the process. I’m convinced that every consulting team and every church undergoing consultation must be covered in prayer in the process. We’re dealing with God’s church, and to go through a consultation without seeking the wisdom and presence of God is to operate too much in our own power.

2. When the lead pastor isn’t really on board with the consult. I’ve seen this happen particularly when another leadership group in the church almost requires the pastor to accept the consult—a situation that already reveals problems in the church.

3. When the leadership fails to accept the depth of the problems. Typically, the leaders recognize some problems, but sometimes they don’t understand just how deeply the issues have affected the church. When we point them out, these leaders tend to become defensive.

4. When leaders don’t fully explain to the church the purpose and plan for the consultation. I’ve interviewed laypersons who began the conversation with, “Who are you, and why are you here? They asked us to be available for an interview, but they didn’t tell us why.” An uninformed church will also be an uninvolved church in the consult.

5. When the church keeps no records of attendance, additions, etc. We can learn a lot about a church by looking at things like growth trends, assimilation patterns, and giving trajectories. It’s almost impossible to do, however, when the church has been unconcerned about numbers.

6. When the church is seemingly unaware of, and unconcerned about, the community around them. If the church assumes the consultant’s role is only to deal with internal issues—and they don’t even ask questions about the community they need to reach—it takes long-term effort to turn their attention outward.

7. When the church is comfortable with transfer growth. That is, they don’t care about how their church grows; they just want to see increased numbers. They’re pleased if they grow at all, even if it’s at the expense of other congregations in the community.

8. When the church has other previous reports sitting on a shelf. They’ve been through this process before, ignored the suggestions then, and likely assume they’ll do the same this time. This kind of situation is most frustrating to a consultant.

9. When the church refuses to ask for help—which means they don’t even consider a consultation in the first place. No matter who we are or what success we’ve had as church leaders, we can use outside eyes on our work at times. When we’re unwilling to admit that need, we lose out on the benefit of learning from other brothers and sisters in Christ.

If one in seven businesses will fail in the next few months leading up to Christmas, be assured that it will be the same with churches.
It doesn't need to happen. All that we need is a revival that will be infested with the enthusiastic reality that God will be in our buildings.

During part of my reading early this morning I came across this following line I thought I needed to share:
"Healthy, thriving organizations change before they NEED to change. Stuck organizations avoid it until they're forced to change—and even then they often don't". Tony Morgan

We need to stop doing what we have always done because in doing so we continue to get the same result and that result is more churches closing.

Find someone who can move you from where you are to where God has always intended you to be.

Many churches will be closed for a while. Many others will never open again. If your church is having difficulties, reach out for some advice and some trained individuals that know what to do and how a church can get all fired up again. Much of it costs little to nothing to ask questions and get suggestions.
There are alternatives. There are ways of rising from the ashes of the pandemic and loss of individuals who won't be back. If He said He would build His church, get as much help as you can and get back individually on fire for God.

09/06/2020

We are approaching 6 months into our new normality. Don't get used to worshipping outside the building. It tells us that we need to fellowship one with another. Do it with masks and do it 2 meters apart.
It's together we support each other, share our insights into God's word and experience worshipping the same Lord and Master of our lives.
