Mount Hamilton Baptist Church

Mount Hamilton Baptist Church SUNDAY WORSHIP & CHILDREN'S PROGRAM 10:30am www.mhbc.ca We are a community of people who God has brought together to learn, share, and grow together.

Although we come from a wide variety of occupations, histories and ethnic backgrounds, we consider ourselves a family. As a family, everyone has an important role in the life of our church. Our motto is: “Come… Just as You Are.” For us this means that we hope you will feel that you can join us wherever you find yourself in life or faith. Feel free to come to our service dressed however you feel co

mfortable – you will see a mix of blue jeans, running shoes, suits, skirts, and shorts at our service, and all are welcome. If you have doubts, questions, or are not a believer we want you to feel safe to come and dialogue as well. However, while our motto is “come just as you are,” we want to warn you that we can’t promise that you will stay as you are! We have been excited to see many people who have come to know Jesus see their lives changed forever (but they can still wear their blue jeans to church).

New series tomorrow, kicking off the Lent season with a series on living simply. Not only will pods be engaging on this, but there are also devotional books you can pick up at the church!

Sometimes we overcomplicate things. Yes, life is complex and often not black and white, but we often lose truth when we forget some simple truths of living and the kingdom God has called us into. In a world that screams more, more, more, and is filled with stuff, distractions, and competing messages, the Gospel offers a compelling alternative narrative; one not focused on self and accumulation, but on others, living generously, and reliance on God. Examining where we spend our time, effort, and resources reveals more about our heart posture than anything else. Jesus’ invitation is a heart rework: to be free from the burden of excess and more, and in its place find contentment and love in God.

New Year, new series!

The bulk of the gospels covers Jesus’ public ministry, a three-year time span. He did a lot in that short amount of time and we are often familiar with the stories and teachings of Jesus, but woven throughout the gospels are ways that Jesus intentionally lived His life.

Practices Jesus deemed essential to living, ways of interacting with the world, and rhythms that lead to true life. Our job as Christians is to be followers of Him; to learn the ways of our rabbi and follow in his ways.

This series will explore a few of those rhythms and how Jesus lived His life so that we might live as He did. Excited to kick it off this Sunday!

Our new fall vision series starts tomorrow! Our world is constantly pushing us for more: more hurry, more work, more performing, more possessions, more pursuit of desire... It's an endless cycle that never satisfies but instead leaves us restless, anxious, dissatisfied, burnt out, drained, tired, frustrated, producing, and consuming. We need to realize that this way of living is incompatible with love, joy, and peace. The rhythm that Jesus invites us to is less, but so much more in many different ways.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11v28-30)

We'd love to have you join us at 10:30 at the church - after the service, there will be a lunch of pasta! Come out and spend some time with our church family!

Blue Christmas Service is Thursday December 12 at 7:00 pm. This service makes space for feelings of loss, grief, or sadness this Christmas. It is open to anyone. Feel free to pass this invite on to any friends or family you know that might find it helpful. It is a short service and people spread out so there is privacy. Over the years people have found it meaningful.
