As we come to the end of our almost two-year-long journey through 1 Corinthians, Paul leaves the church with a powerful picture of what the gospel should produce.

Not simply people who believe, but people who are changed.

We are not to be passive.

Paul reminds us that we have been saved to serve, called to love one another deeply, and invited to live with our hearts fixed on the return of Jesus.

After sixteen chapters of correction, encouragement, theology, failure, grace, the cross, and resurrection, Paul ends with something remarkably simple:

“The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.”

What kind of church does Christ call us to be?

One that serves. Loves. And waits for Christ.

And until the trumpet sounds:

Maranatha.

Come, Lord Jesus.

Anyone who has come to a living faith in Christ Jesus as their Lord can tell you this:

God's timing is not always our timing.
God's plans are often not our plans.

Those born into the faith might even acknowledge that God's programs may not even be our programs.

God uses regular people in regular (often random) situations at regular places like work, school, the supermarket, or a soccer field, to kindle the spark of something with eternal ramifications.

Sometimes, it isn't until you hear a testimony years later that you understand those chance encounters were anything but.

On a sunny August Sunday morning, some 400 attendees at Mercy Christian Church’s Waterfront Service were blessed to hear about five such "encounters."

Sometimes, it's easy to get caught up in the nuances of mission and what it means to do mission "well."

Sometimes, it's good to just sit back and marvel at how God gets mission right, every single time.

Sometimes, we just need to be present and willing.

The Holy Spirit will do the hard part.

Water.

Nothing on earth can survive long without it.
Yet few things in nature share its destructive power.

Water can bring pestilence with merely a sip.
Water can reshape continents with its relentless pounding.

Water can destroy old natures.
Water can usher in new life.

Through baptism, water tells the story of the gospel:

Judgment and salvation.
Death and life.

It points us to Jesus Christ, who entered the waters of judgment in our place so that all who trust in Him might receive eternal life.

Jesus' words in John 3:16 remind us that God's love is greater than our sin, His grace is deeper than our failures, and His invitation is open to whoever believes in Jesus.

The Living Water.

This sunday, we will celebrate God's amazing grace through a special outdoor baptism service on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Here, we will witness the baptism of 5 adults and 4 infants!

At 10:30 am. Pastor Ian will bring us the good news of John 3:16 under the theme: "Whoever Believes."

Nathan Korten will lead our 1pm service :
"What Is Repentance?" (Psalm 51, Lord’s Day 33)

Our services will be held at The Edgewater Pavilion which is located at 680 Waterfront Trail (within Confederation Park) in Hamilton, Ontario.

Seating will be provided, as well as a potluck lunch between services.

The service will be recorded, but no livestream will be available.

His choices left him broken, blind, and in chains, but failure was not the end of his story.
