Saint George's is a parish of the Classical Anglican tradition.

Saint George's is a parish of the Classical Anglican tradition. That is to say, we not only 'use' the Book of Common Prayer (1962) at all services of public worship, but we understand the Prayer Book to encourage

a way of Christian Living which seeks to offer ourselves, our souls and bodies as a reasonable, holy and living sacrifice. The life of the parish is formed by its endeavour to be shaped by Holy Scripture and true to the spiritual integrity of the Christian Tradition. The parish observes all the festivals and ember days of the liturgical calendar as found in the Prayer Book, including full choral worship on major Saints days. It maintains the traditional Eucharistic Lectionary which has guided the Church and has achieved its continual conversion to holiness for more than a millennium. Our parish enjoys a glorious musical programme which honours the ancient choral music of the church. We have been blessed with an extensive outreach effort in our neighbourhood (including a Soup Kitchen of more than twenty years and an active Community Youth Outreach) which reflects our understanding of how God's love must be shown to one another and in his world. Our parish is typical of many inner city ministries of the past two centuries, which have often been of Prayer Book Catholic theology and rich liturgy, believing in the real presence of Christ both on the altar and in the lives of the poor.

Tiny Church Concerts are back! Karis Tees puts on a great show, so I really hope to see you all down at the Little Dutch Church this Friday at 7pm - 8 pm, 2393 Brunswick Street. Admission is by donation: funds raised will be split between the artists and the Rector’s Discretionary Fund.

KARIS TEES sings folk, choral, classical, and baroque music in churches, pubs, living rooms, concert halls, and around campfires. In 2023 she completed her Master of Music degree in Historical Performance Voice at the University of Toronto. Her first solo EP, 'When It Comes Time', was released in 2024. You can hear her on recordings by Thomas McCallum (Crocus Song, Many A Long Hour), The Boo Radley Project, and a forthcoming album by Al Tuck. Karis is Music Director at Trinity Anglican Church, Halifax, and teaches voice.

In an odd change of events, Matthew Joel could not play next week, so Thomas McCallum has stepped in and Matthew will play October 9.

St George's is delighted to be an employer partner with the University of King's College Internships in the Public and Applied Humanities program. Thanks to matching financial support from the program, we were able to hire 4th year King's student Bella Bisci to work in the parish archives this summer. Bella, with part-time help from supervisor Sarah Stevenson, is working on creating an accession list of all the materials currently in the archives, as well as some new materials that have been recently donated.

Do you have old copies of the Parish Magazine/The Lance that you would like to pass along? We are also looking for issues of The Dragon Gazette children's magazine from approximately 1993 and Parish Annual Reports prior to 1982.

Jeffery Zhang, harpsichord

Jeffery Zhang graduated from McGill University with bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Harpsichord Performance. He holds a deep affinity for the French Baroque style, and a keen interest in historical improvisation and composition. In early music, he found refuge in its dramatic yet methodical expression of emotion—a space where reason and passion not only reconcile, but elevate one another. By day, Jeffery works in the finance industry. He is also a new board member of the Early Music Society of Nova Scotia. The programme will feature selections by Bach, Pachelbel, and d’Angelbert.

Junior Choir Concert

Please mark your calendars: Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm, The Music Room - Junior Choir presents 'The Three Trees', choreographed by Karen Bassett, followed by a mixed programme of instrumental and vocal talents. Plan to attend and show your support for our wonderful children's choir. Admission is free.

The next Tiny Church Concert is this Thursday, June 11, at 7pm with Ali McCormick and Vicki Brittle
Admission by donation. We're looking forward to more neighbors meeting neighbors and good music down at the Little Dutch Church!

Audiences can expect an intimate and dynamic evening, with both Vicki and Ali performing solo sets as well as joining each other for select songs, creating a collaborative and memorable live experience.

Vicki Brittle is a Folk/Rock Singer-songwriter from The Ottawa Valley known for her distinct, unforgettable raspy vocals and acoustic melodies that weave through reflective lyricism and unique phrasing. Often referred to as an “old soul”, Brittle brings a memorable energy and presence to the stage.

Known for her powerful voice, vivid imagery, and fearless lyricism, Ali McCormick is a true northern folk troubadour. Her songs move with the rhythm of rivers and back roads, blending rugged honesty with poetic insight.
