All are welcome to a soup supper and an engaging time of learning about this dark reality in our region and diocese: modern day slavery hidden in plain sight, with many youth as victims. Co-hosting this workshop, APP and the Outreach Committee of the Cathedral are taking action to bring awareness of the prevalence of sexual exploitation of youth. This workshop is a not-to-be-missed opportunity - all are welcome!

Remembrance Day, November 11, is an important and poignant date for Canadians, with Remembrance Sunday commemorated on the Sunday before Remembrance Day - November 9th this year. There are lots of resources available to help with the honouring of Remembrance Day and Veterans' Week: https://www.veterans.gc.ca/en/remembrance/get-involved/remembrance-day-veterans-week With the focus on recognizing those who have served, and continue to serve, in our armed forces, there is also a great emphasis on the necessary pursuit of peace, as we understand the devastating damage of all wars.

With thanksgiving, we announce the election of the Rt. Rev. Shane Parker as the 15th Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada. June is National Indigenous History Month — a time to reflect on the rich histories, cultures, contributions and unstoppable resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. It is also a reminder that learning about Indigenous histories is not just for this month, and reconciliation requires ongoing effort, listening, and accountability.
Today, June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

🌿 On National Indigenous Peoples Day, let’s honour First Nation, Inuit and Métis cultures, languages and traditions.

Across the country, Celebrate Canada-funded activities showcase the rich diversity of Indigenous Peoples.

Anglicans Powering Potential
Anglicans Powering Potential give thanks to Bishop Sandra and all Synod office staff for making possible the uplifting 152nd Synod: Therefore We Have Hope. There were many wonderful features, with the keynote presenter, the Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnstone, being paramount. The many ways in which he allowed delegates to explore the message of "Hope [being] a radical act of defiance in the face of the impossible" were inspirational. The worship, the music, the displays, and the presentations of Resolutions, along with table discussions, all contributed to a very successful Synod 2025.

Certainly, APP has hope and gives thanks for the several social justice Resolutions, especially its own regarding the unanimous acceptance to adopt the "Faith Pledge" of Can't Buy My Silence and Daughter Project Canada, affirming the commitment already undertaken by the Diocese of NS & PEI, to never use Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), unless requested by the complainant, in cases involving sexual harassment, misconduct or abuse, discrimination, retaliation, or bullying. Thank you to all delegates.

The acceptance of this Resolution resulted in significant news coverage, one being a CBC Radio Maritime Noon interview on Monday, May 26:
Facebook blocks news links in Canada so please check out the CBC podcast with host Bob Murphy interviewing and speaking with Cynthia Pilichos and Liz LeClair about the decision over the weekend on NDAs by the Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

It is hoped that the leadership of our Diocese and its moral commitment not to silence victims or avoid accountability will be an inspiration for a similar Resolution at General Synod in late June. There is an excellent article in the June 2025 issue of the Anglican Journal, "Buying silence is a social sin the church cannot afford) (page 4), authored by Jeffrey Metcalfe:
