Join us on Tuesday, June 9 from 2:00–3:30 p.m. ET for an online session exploring how communities of faith can live into The United Church of Canada’s 2025 apology to 2S and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Participants will reflect on the apology, hear stories from communities already engaging this work, and explore practical ways to embody the apology in worship, community life, and public witness.

The session will also offer space for conversation, reflection, and identifying meaningful next steps in local contexts.

God of the Rainbow,
More than those who watch for morning,
Our souls wait, for the day when each of us,
of every gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation
knows that we are meant to be:
loved, cherished, and protected; and
that we are to be:
proud of our identities; and
celebrated.

For we are your imperfectly perfect children,
called to reflect Christ’s radiant light,
embody Christ’s radical love; and
build your beloved community,
especially when storms of fear and hatred rage around us.

And so, more than those who watch for morning,
we, in our great diversity,
wait for your promised rainbow of peace,
as we work towards a world where every gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation is affirmed as beloved; and,
every soul’s spirit is able to sparkle, shine and sing your dream with pride.

May it be so,

Amen.

—Rev. Dr. Alydia Smith

The Gentle Creed
In your laughter let there be happiness, in your tears renewal. In your quiet moments, contentment. In your dreams a future promise.
Let there be peace in your time alone and friendship in a crowd. Let your knowledge of your self bring you to a greater understanding of what you can achieve. Do not place too great a value on the material world, but take time to listen to the ballad of the birds in green valleys.
Hurry not from one workload to another without taking time to be aware of your own needs and the needs of others and do not underestimate the importance of being fulfilled, for if you are not whole in your satisfaction you can not wholly give it to others.
Step forward to another day, taking with you the best of the last and the lessons learned. But remember, even when we are dissatisfied with ourselves there is One who knows us completely and will not desert us.
Take courage to live at a slower pace and to listen to the self you have yet to discover.

On Pentecost Sunday, Christians around the world celebrate the formation of the church when the Holy Spirit called people into community as Christ’s body and blessed them with universal understanding of languages. Pentecost, which literally means “fifty days,” is a moveable feast which always occurs on the seventh Sunday after Easter. Though it may not be as ubiquitous as other key Christian celebrations, it is a tremendous day in church history.
Theologian Willie James Jennings asserts: “Only the gracious work of God
in creation matches this moment of prevenient grace.”1 He’s not alone in this conviction; some theologians describe Pentecost as the Church’s birthday. Others describe it as a “big bang” that brought the Church into being, for just as God’s Spirit came rushing into the world over the waters of creation, in Acts 2, God’s Spirit rushes into the world to gather and transform God’s people.
So where does that leave us? If we are willing to be amazed, Pentecost is one of the most awe-inspiring days in our Christian calendar. If we are willing to be transformed, it is an opportunity to be renewed in energy and faithfulness toward the work of God’s kindom on earth when all people will experience true liberation and boundless love.

May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. Join us today in support of the non-negotiable truth of every person’s dignity.

Creator, we come to you with both the joys and the sorrows of our hearts.
We are grateful for the gift of life and the joy that it can bring.
For families and friends who love us.
For allies who stick up for us, even when we cannot risk sticking up for ourselves.
For the great diversity you have created in our world.
We pray for those who suffer from discrimination because of their gender identity or sexual orientation.
Who worry about their employment or who cannot find a job.
For those who must hide who they are to find housing.
For those who are not safe on our streets.
For those who do not feel safe in their place of worship.
Help us to end homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia, and all forms of discrimination and hate.
Show us the way to make this world a better place for all.
