Adsum for Women and Children has offered support to women and children in Halifax municipality during periods of homelessness and housing insecurity since 1983. Adsum operates an emergency shelter as well as transitional and permanent housing. Adsum means “I am here.”

Adsum shelters and houses as many as 90 people each day and more than 300 persons in a year. Hundreds more use Adsum services and support without ever staying with us, often related to their basic needs for safe and affordable housing, food, clothing and connection.

Missionaries David Kromminga and Mary Buteyn serve in Germany in cooperation with the Berliner Stadtmission, on the front lines of the refugee crisis in Europe. Mary and David are providing pastoral care, language education, leadership training for new Christians, worship support, as well as promoting interreligious understanding, and workshops for congregations in intercultural competence.
