Rev. Martha Martin is returning to our faith community and will lead with conviction, character, and competence. The three “C’s” of ministry. Her bio and recent blog post are up on our church website. Find her insightful message in a new blog space entitled “Grace is in the Journey.” As she is moved by the spirt and as time will allow, she will share a reflection in hope to help us meet grace in our journey.

We took a hiatus to accommodate summer vacation. Ironically, we were so excited we forgot to post that the church office was closed all last week.

More from Collective 2026 being held at Brock University. Travelling mercies to the Region East pilgrimage. A bus load of delegates: a mix of youth, youth leaders, lay leaders and ministers from the Maritimes are participating.

Thanks for setting an example in speech, conduct, and love. May you continue to build a foundation of faith that won't be shaken and that this experience is a real act of discipleship. You are in this moment a generation that changes the world.

Week three combining our communities in faith through the summer slump has us this Sunday at 10:30am in a lay lead time of worship exploring the pesky invention of summer… mosquitos.🦟

These are ancient insects that evolved over 200 million years ago. They emerge as a staple feature of summer because warm weather and standing water provides the nourishment for their life cycles and triggers their seasonal activity.

Mosquito symbolism reminds you how unimportant and temporary things are. Especially those things that irritate you. The mosquito also represents the need to change something.

Often we turn to prayer for change, we open our hearts to a power greater than ourselves. Prayer shifts our focus from what we lack to what is possible, bringing peace to our minds and strength to our spirits.

Will we learn that the mosquito is not the buzz kill of summer?
Come and see… while you wait contemplate this little prayer…

Gorged on blood,
a mosquito drunkenly wobbles past my line of sight
and I realize that in a moment or two, somewhere on my body,
a reddened. itchy welt will appear.
It will keep me up at night.
I ask God in a petulant prayer:
“What were you thinking when you created such a nuisance?”
And contemplate the horrifying reply:
“It’s not about you.
“It’s about bats and dragon flies, and birds, fish and frogs.
So suck it up, beloved creation of mine.
Your minor and temporary inconvenience is life to many.
Your blood is exactly where it ought to be.” ~ Patti Rodgers

At Hillside United we find welcome this Sunday as we explore one of the inventions of summer…. string beans.

String beans symbolize growth, luck, prosperity, and connection to the earth. Because they grow upward in a climbing or vining pattern, they frequently represent spiritual progress, resilience, and the steady unfolding of life.

May the words and music of this service provide an abundant harvest for the mind, body, and soul. May the service provide nourishment and healing in the sustenance of praise for the Creator. And may the practice of combining community to embrace togetherness demonstrate to us all that the light of love is a part of our interconnectedness in spirit.
