This is a clear and poignant piece, written by the q***r Dean of Canterbury in the wake of the demise of the problematic LLF, and considering the implications going forward: “Seventhly, there is little likelihood of anything improving and every likelihood of things getting much worse for LGBT+ people. Many agree that it is now far harder for us in the church than it was 30+ years ago. The tide is turning in the world with gains in equality now being questioned and many, including me, are fearful that what we see with far-right parties elsewhere, we may see here too. From early in ministry, I learnt to respect bishops but not to trust them. I couldn’t begin to make a list of the broken promises and quiet assurances that ‘all will be well’:

by the Very Revd David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury Much metaphorical ink has already been spilt on the announcement from the House of Bishops of the death of Living in Love and Faith (LLF). These reflections add nothing to that discourse but are an attempt to articulate something of what this

For anyone who may not know what 2SLGBTQIA+ means.

Unpacking the Alphabet
Ever see "2SLGBTQIA+" and think, "Whoa, that's a lot of letters!"? You're not alone! It looks like a secret code, but it's actually a super cool way to talk about all the amazing, diverse people in our world. Think of it like a colorful rainbow, and each letter adds another beautiful shade.
So, let's break it down, no secret decoder ring required!
🌈 2S for Two-Spirit: This one's special! It's an important term used by some Indigenous people. It describes folks who carry both masculine and feminine spirits, a really respected identity in many Indigenous cultures.
💖 L for Le***an: These are women who love women. Simple as that!
💙 G for Gay: Often, this means men who love men. Sometimes, people use it as a bigger umbrella for anyone who loves someone of the same gender.
💜 B for Bis*xual: This is for people who are attracted to both men and women. Love knows no single path!
🦋 T for Transgender: Imagine feeling like the gender you were told you were at birth doesn't quite match who you are inside. That's transgender! It's about living authentically as the person you know you are, whether that's a woman, a man, or another gender identity.
❓ Q for Q***r or Questioning: "Q***r" is a cool, reclaimed word for some folks who don't fit neatly into other boxes. It used to be hurtful, but now many use it proudly! "Questioning" means someone who's still figuring out their attractions or their gender identity – and that's perfectly okay!
🧬 I for Inters*x: Sometimes, people are born with bodies that don't quite fit typical ideas of "male" or "female." Inters*x people are born with s*x characteristics that are diverse.
🤝 A for As*xual or Ally: As*xual means someone doesn't experience s*xual attraction. Ally means you're a friend and supporter of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, even if you're not part of the community yourself. You're standing with them!
✨ + for All the Rest! That little plus sign is super important! It's a shout-out to all the other beautiful ways people identify and experience their gender and attractions that aren't specifically listed. It's about being totally inclusive!
At its heart, 2SLGBTQIA+ is just about celebrating everyone and making sure we all feel seen, respected, and loved for exactly who we are. Because life's more fun when we embrace all the colors of the rainbow, right? - Rev. Nic 💝
