💡Did you know that Woodlawn Memorial Park is an independent, charitable organization?

Because we are an independent charity rather than a city-run cemetery, our historic 80-acre space is managed by a local, volunteer board of directors. This structure means everything we do—from preserving our mature tree canopy to caring for memorial sites—is funded directly by the services we provide and donations from the community. It also means every dollar we receive goes right back into maintaining these beautiful grounds for years to come.

We are proud to be a completely self-sustaining part of Guelph’s history, and we are so grateful to our community for helping us preserve this special space. 💚

When deciding on a final resting place for a loved one's cremated remains, it can be hard to choose between a natural scattering or a traditional monument. The Garden of Angels was designed to offer both.

This peaceful space accommodates both the burial and scattering of cremated remains. For a lasting tribute, personalized memorial plaques are installed directly onto natural armour stones within the garden.

If you’re looking for a shaded place to stretch your legs, we invite you to come and enjoy our trails. Thanks to our historic arboretum status, our mature tree canopy offers plenty of relief from the direct sun.

To stay safe in the heat, remember to bring a water bottle, pace yourself, and take breaks on our shaded benches.

We also kindly ask that you stick to designated pathways during your visit. Summer heat puts extra stress on grass and plants, and staying on the paths is the best way to keep the grounds healthy and beautiful.

We are pleased to announce that fieldstones are now available as a burial option at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Unlike traditional grave stones or markers, field stones are boulders left in their raw, organic state. They are designed to blend into the landscape and become part of the meadow over time.

Field stones have been placed across Block Birch and in Taylor’s Meadow, and offer a unique way to memorialize a loved one with remains integrated into the outdoors. Every stone is shaped by the elements, and each marker is completely unique.

We invite you to walk through the grounds near Taylor’s Meadow to see how these stones look within the landscape.

A walk through our grounds often reveals stories from Guelph’s earliest days. One of the most significant is the Pioneer Resting Place, which serves as the final home for residents originally buried at the downtown Baker Street cemetery.

As the city grew and the original cemetery was converted into a public park in the mid-1800s, individuals interred downtown were moved to Woodlawn Memorial Park to ensure their resting places remained permanent and respected. Marked by the Pioneer Monument, this area is a quiet corner of the park where our city’s history is preserved.

Next time you are on the grounds, we invite you to visit the monument in Block Lilac and take a moment to reflect on our community’s heritage.
