George’s Church Guelph, a wooden structure was located at Guelph city Centre, St. George’s Square, on land set aside for a church by Sir John Galt. It was the second church built in Guelph after Norfolk Street United Church. The original wood structure was completed in 1834 and renovated to stone and added onto in the 1850’s. This Stone Church at St. George’s Square served as the church for the next 20 years. The Church at the present site was completed in 1873.

For generations, our church has stood as a landmark in Guelph—a place where lives have been celebrated, comfort has been offered, faith has been nurtured, and community has gathered.

Its walls have witnessed baptisms, weddings, funerals, concerts, community events, and countless moments of grace. From generation to generation, others cared for this treasured building so that it would be here for us today.

Now it's our turn.

This June, we're inviting community members to contribute $50 to help fund essential repairs and maintenance of our beloved church home.

While $50 may not seem like much, when hundreds of people join together, those Nifty Fifties add up quickly and help preserve one of Guelph's cherished landmarks for future generations.

After all, it takes more than faith to keep a historic church standing—it takes a team of dedicated tradespeople, and a community that cares.

Help us keep St. George's standing strong for generations to come.

Today, we give thanks and celebrate with great joy as Rev. David Shumaker is ordained to the priesthood.

David has already been a faithful presence in our parish community, offering compassion, wisdom, kindness, and steady leadership, and we are so grateful to witness this next step in his ministry journey.

Please join us in surrounding David with your prayers and encouragement as he begins this new chapter of service to God and the Church. May his ministry continue to be rooted in love, curiosity, courage, and grace.

Congratulations, Rev. David Shumaker! We are so proud to celebrate with you today. ✨

An Important Update about Music at St. George’s

Dear patrons and supporters of Music at St. George’s,
I write to you with a heavy heart but hope for the future. If you haven’t heard about our situation at St. George’s, we have been informed of some major structural issues in our sanctuary. The roof support needs some immediate attention which has led us to cancel anything in the sanctuary itself for safety reasons until this work is finished. Sadly, this includes Music at St George’s. We had an excellent lineup of concerts but didn’t want to present them in our gym or at another venue. These excellent concerts have been rescheduled for next year and we certainly hope that things will be back to normal in the fall. That being said, we won’t know the exact timeline until they inspect all of the areas of concern in the sanctuary. We will certainly let all of you know about the concerts in October. If for some reason we aren’t able to be back in the sanctuary by October, we will look into an alternate venue to keep this series active and downtown. Whatever the outcome, we will certainly inform you of the upcoming concerts.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we navigate this challenging time at St. George’s. We will look forward to sharing more amazing concerts with you in our 2026-2027 season.

Sincerely,
Jeff Enns & Catherine Molina
