How does God show up in our day to day lives in this modern era?

The Memoire ‘God’s Gift’ by Paul Shepherd doesn’t try to answer this question directly, but it gives a glimpse into something we don’t hear often from a masculine perspective: how faith and mental health can be deeply intertwined, and how belief can help one find healing. A story full of trauma, faith and perseverance, Shepherd’s vulnerability is a breath of fresh air in a society that does not allow men to fully express their struggles. Shepherd’s willingness to speak up in a culture that often tells men to handle their suffering in silence offers the opportunity to open ourselves up to how God can be present for us when we struggle. It is also a place to start a dialogue around how we can be present for each other – especially for those who feel as though they must hide their suffering from their loved ones.

We are happy to announce that the author (Paul Shepherd) and his wife Renee will be joining us on Sunday June 7th for a special service focused on faith and mental health as our guest speakers! This will take place during our usual gathering time (10:30Am). Light refreshments are to follow and Shepherd’s self published memoir “God’s Gift” will be on sale. The book is $27, with $5 of each sale going to the Canadian Association for Mental Health (CAMH).
