“One Bread, One Body” Sunday, 07 June 2026 10 a.m.

This Sunday, we are pleased to have one of our deacons: David Spencer bring a message from 1 Corinthians 10: 14-17.

1 Corinthians 10:14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.

Following the message this week, we will be celebrating the Lord’s supper together. Join us in person on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. or via livestream by going to https://www.firstbaptistsudbury.com and clicking on livestream for “One Bread, One Body.”

“The Father of the Bride” Sunday, 31 May 2026 10 a.m.

We have begun a new series today entitled “All In.” It means that we are fully committed to following Jesus, thoroughly surrendered to Him in word, thought, and action.

Paul in 2 Corinthians 11 tells the church that they are easily fooled by preachers who preach a different Jesus, one who embodies a different spirit and leads to a different gospel.

Paul wants to warn the Corinthians; like a spiritual father that he is - having spent a year and a half with these people discipling, evangelizing, and building up the church. He has a vested interest in this community of believers in Corinth; he is the spiritual father of the bride.

2 Cor 11: 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!

Paul says if false teachers come meaning - when they come, and they will abound especially in the end times. There have been imposters that have come and gone and have portrayed a different Jesus - a different Jesus than the one portrayed by the Bible results in receiving a different spirit. The result of believing in a different Jesus, from a different spirit is that it results in a different gospel, a gospel that's really not the gospel at all. Here are some of the different Jesus’ that we see in our church world today.

The social justice champion: this rendition of Jesus is used to promote whatever social issue in question
The new age guru: Jesus is employed at times as one of many gurus or modern spiritual teachers who blend Eastern mysticism, alternative healing, and Western self-help psychology with the gospel.
Father Santa : this a benevolent Jesus who gives you whatever blessing you may require and requires nothing in return, no commitment, no devotion, no keeping of any command - it's all Grace.

These renditions of Jesus are propagated by the church world today to suit the needs of those who follow them; it leads people away from the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“The Flame of First Love” Sunday, 24 May 2026 10 a.m.

We have begun a new series today entitled “All In.” It means that we are fully committed to following Jesus, thoroughly surrendered to Him in word, thought, and action.

Paul, in Ephesians, prays that the church would grow more and more in their knowledge of Jesus through a spirit of revelation and of wisdom. To know Him is to love Him; and I wonder how they made out? Well, about 25 or 30 years later John the Apostle in the Book of Revelation had some things to say about the church in Ephesus- through the voice of Jesus. Jesus said about the Ephesian church:

Revelation 2:4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

They had left their first love; they hadn't lost it - they had left it - much like a man or a woman leaves their spouse for the love of another.

We are returning to the story we started last week in 2 Kings 6 where the Syrian army is surrounding Elisha. And Elisha prays to the Lord that they would be stricken blind. And after he had led them into the city of Samaria, the Lord opens their eyes…they are defenseless, in the hands of their Israeli enemies. What would Elisha do now?

2 Kings 6:21 Now when the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, “My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?” 22 But he answered, “You shall not kill them. Would you kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow?

Shall I kill them? A natural question for a king to ask, whose enemy has been ambushed and brought to his disposal. Elisha says:” Kill them?” Would you kill prisoners of war? No; you wouldn't be so ruthless.

We see a great attribute of God here in the O.T…. something that is depicted at the cross where mercy and forgiveness flows down for us. This quality of mercy is unavailable in our world today, because if you fail, you will be canceled; stricken from the record books, your statue will be removed.

If we forget that mercy that was shown to you at the cross, then we will surely lose our first love - because it's not that we loved Him but that He loved us first.

“Two Kings, Two Jacks and An Ace” Sunday, 17 May 2026 10 a.m.

We have begun a new series today entitled “All In.” It means that we are fully committed to following Jesus, thoroughly surrendered to Him in word, thought, and action.

Today, we are looking at the aspect of “revelation” in the life of the believer. And we are examining it through the story that is told in 2 Kings 6:8-17, about the prophet Elisha and his ability to “see” spiritually. There are 3 different aspects of spiritual sight: revelation, inspiration and illumination.

In “revelation”, God reveals truth to us. In “inspiration”, a person under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, declares the thoughts of God. And in illumination, the words that are conveyed into our hearts are made alive by the Holy Spirit. There are five characters in this story; two kings: of Israel and Syria; two “jacks” or servants of the Syrian King and of Elisha, and there is an “ace” who is the prophet, Elisha.

So, in the story you have King #1 - a heathen King from Syria who God graciously gives some information to; but he remains unchanged.

You have the “Ace”- the man of God - Elisha who's “All in” in his relationship with the Lord - his spirit is fully illuminated by the Holy Spirit and God gives ongoing revelation to him.

You have “Jack #1 “- King of Syria’s servant who has been given a revelation by the Lord, but he remains unchanged by it.

You have the King #2 - of Israel -who parallels someone who should know the Lord but is a living adrift from God and is serving idols. Yet God is gracious to him; giving him information through Elisha and protecting him.

You have Jack #2 - the servant of the prophet Elisha - who is following the man of God and yet is not fully developed in his trust and lacks faith. But when Elisha prays for him, the Lord opened his spiritual eyes, and he saw the Lord’s army, horses and chariots camped around the enemy’s camp.

It’s God’s desire for us as believers to receive a spirit of revelation and wisdom so that we can know Jesus better and be less influenced by the cares and concerns of this world. This spiritual impartation comes to us in moments of stillness and helps understand God’s power and purpose.

Ephesians 1:17…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him.

“Show Me Your Ways” Sunday, 03 May 2026 10 a.m.

We have begun a new series today entitled “All In.” It means that we are fully committed to following Jesus, thoroughly surrendered to Him in word, thought, and action.

Today, we want to talk about the difference between being a child of God who has the Spirit of Truth living within you and the unbeliever who does not. There is a temptation in our Christian world to say that we are all God's children which is fundamentally wrong. We are all God's creatures, made in the image of God with a spirit that is either alive or dead towards God but we're not all God's children.

John 1:12 But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.

Jesus draws a definitive line of separation between the unbelieving world and the believer in three areas regarding the Holy Spirit - receiving the Holy Spirit, having a revelation by the Holy Spirit and a relationship through the Holy Spirit.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Jesus wants to live in you by the Spirit of Truth - He wants you to, not only memorize the verse: “ Lo I Am with You Always” but He wants you to believe it with all of your heart and soul and live it.
Moses understood the ways of God. He understood how He worked - and he desired to know the Lord more; he didn't want to go to the promised land without the presence of the Lord.

Exodus 33:13 Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know You in order to find favor in your sight. 14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

“The Rock of Offense” Sunday, 26 April 2026 10 a.m.

We have begun a new series today entitled “All In.” It means that we are fully committed to following Jesus, thoroughly surrendered to Him in word, thought, and action. We ended last week with the thought that the Spirit of truth will take us into the crucible or the furnace where the heat gets turned up on our faith - and if we stand in our faith, we are likely to offend others. Jesus when He was on the earth offended others constantly.

He didn't do it intentionally, but people were hurt and offended by the things that He did and spoke. In Mark ch.3 alone – Jesus offended the religious leaders, He offended his home town friends, He offended the educated scribes, and even His own family members.

And, in this “all-in” spiritual life that you desire to live, these are some of the hazards - the rocks of offense - that some may stumble over. The religious might see you as defiant - you don't keep the rules; the hometown heroes might see you as being “deranged” or a fanatic; the experts could label you as being “demonized”; and your family could see you as being “disrespectful”.

But Jesus says, that if you accept Me - the Son of God, who came to bring you everlasting life by dying on the cross, and if you are willing to live the “All-In“ life by taking up your cross and following Me - you will be blessed.

Matthew 5:11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven…

“Who’s in the Driver’s Seat?” Sunday, 19 April 2026 10 a.m.

We have begun a new series today entitled “All In.” It means that we are fully committed to following Jesus, thoroughly surrendered to Him in word, thought, and action ...it’s a gambling term, but this is not a wager nor a gamble…the Bible says that if you seek Him - you will find Him.

Jesus said that He would send the “Helper” to assist us in our spiritual lives – the Spirit of Truth.
John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth…

We live in a world of smoke and mirrors, verbal shell games…the world - meaning the “secular world”, cares not for the things of the Spirit, because - the world hates the truth; and by extension hates you - if you are committed to the truth.

The first thing that the Holy Spirit did in Jesus' life, following His baptism by John, was to drive Him - the Holy Spirit's at the wheel now leading and directing - when we are living “All- IN”- our life is not at our discretion any more, we now move to the beat of the Holy Spirit.

Mark 1:12 Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. 13 And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.

The Holy Spirit is leading Jesus into the wilderness for 40 days. The wilderness is a place of leanness, where the children of Israel learn to depend on God for manna, water and for shelter. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit takes us through these seasons so that we can learn to depend on Him and to die to ourselves… where you learn the “crucified life.”

Maybe you’re at a place, in your “All- In” journey; you’re tired of gratifying the fleshly nature - natural appetites, sexual appetites…you’re tired of looking for “likes on Facebook”, tired of keeping up with the crowd. And you realize: “I need to crucify the flesh - submit my flesh to the cross.”

I want to encourage you; if you have been putting your sinful nature on the cross… meaning - there are places you’d like to go, but won’t…things you'd like to watch, but don’t... congratulations, the Spirit of Truth is at work in your life. He’s removing compromise; He’s not allowing you to make excuses or alibis anymore, He is the Spirit of Truth and He is in the driver’s seat.

“To Know Him – Is to Love Him” Sunday, 12 April 2026 10 a.m.

We are starting a new series today entitled “All In.” It means that we are fully committed to following Jesus, thoroughly surrendered to Him in word, thought , and action ...its a gambling term, but this is not a wager nor a gamble…the Bible says that if you seek Him - you will find Him.

After the resurrection, Jesus met with His disciples -for 40 days. He met with the 11 on more than one occasion and told them that He was about to come good on a promise… the “Promise of the Father” - the Holy Spirit. Jesus had begun to teach about the work and the Person of the Holy Spirit at the Last Supper. He said to His disciples:

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

The condition to walking in the fullness of the Holy Spirit that is essential in the “ALL-IN “ life… is love of Jesus… it's easy to say “I love you”... tens of thousands are saying it every day and then within a few weeks are moving on from their marriage vows. Jesus says: You can't have 2 loves - you will love one and hate the other…” “I want you to love Me with: all of your heart; and all of your soul; and all of your mind and all of your strength. I want you to be “All In.”

And if you love Me – “you will keep my commands” - this is not a suggestion- its an imperative. Jesus doesn’t give you the permission to twist and misinterpret His Word of God so as to rationalize and justify your actions and behavior. His commands are not contingent on how you feel about them. God will test you in this - do you love Me? Is your love for Me seen in the evidence of an obedient life?

Abraham was tested in his love for God. After the long-awaited child, Isaac was born, God saw how much Abraham loved that boy - and so he tested Abraham to see if he would follow his command/His word. As he will test us all in our love of Jesus…how deep is your love? …deep enough to keep My commands, even tho’ you may not fully understand?

Abraham trusted God, He loved the Lord, he was bound to the will of God, Abraham believed…He knew in his heart that God had the power, if needed, to raise the boy from the dead. Abraham loved God and knew Him as a Friend. To know Him - is to love Him – is to obey Him.
