Traveling the River Together

Traveling the River Together Traveling the River Together, Pinaaz-i Zibi Maamawi in Anishinaabemowin, acknowledges we serve and gather on the unceded territories of the Algonquins.

Traveling the river together with the Creator, celebrating culture in friendship, peace and goodwill. Traveling the River Together - Pinaaz-i Zibi Maamawi respectfully acknowledges we are located on the unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin and Anishninaabek who have lived, worked and existed on this land since time immemorial. We acknowledge that long before anyone else arrived there

were those who had a care-filled, intimate relationship with the land and waters of this territory and that those people are still here. Through engagement and awareness we strive to travel this river of life together, celebrating culture, in friendship, peace and goodwill.

It is that time of year again! We once again are able to provide some full or partial sponsorships to provide children and youth in the Golden Lake and Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and surrounding area the opportunity to attend Camp Mishewah this summer. Numbers are limited!

Camp at Mishewah combines adventure, friendship, and personal growth. Connections matter, so we plan activities that bring campers together—both with their peers and our amazing staff.
The waterfront is a favorite spot, with swimming, kayaking, and sailing always drawing a crowd. Campers can also build skills in basketball, floor hockey, archery, pickleball, badminton, arts & crafts, darts, and even cooking! For those craving adventure, our offsite canoe trip is a highlight, strengthening paddling skills and teamwork.
With delicious, nutritious meals to fuel the fun, the day continues with energetic chapel sessions featuring inspiring speakers and worship. Evenings wrap up around the campfire with songs, skits, and laughter—leaving campers counting down the days until they can return next summer!

Camps include:

Scamps and Champs: August 2-8, 2026; Ages 8-11
Jr. Teen: August 9-15, 2026; Ages 12-14
Sr. Teen: August 16-22; Ages 15-18

If you know of any children or youth who would benefit from a camp experience, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] for more information. For more information about Camp Mishewah and available camps, please go to, https://mishewah.ecmcamps.ca/kids-youth-camps/.

“Cultural burns are about more than fire. They’re about living with the land.” 🔥

As conversations around cultural burning grow, terms like “cultural fire” and “prescribed burns” are increasingly being used interchangeably. But not all fire is the same. And the words we use matter. The latest from our senior fire advisor provides a starting point to help clarify what defines these fire management methods–and how they benefit the land.
