Glassville United Church Cemetery

Glassville United Church Cemetery This page was set up to inform people of the current status of the Glassville United Church Cemetery.

It is hoped that those who have family members in the cemetery see the need for continued support in order to provide perpetual care of the cemetery.

Update of Cemetery Project:
The steeple has just had a coat of primer, and painting will be completed very soon. The church stained glass window is repaired and waiting for the design which will house it. We are hopeful that this project will be completed this summer. We have attached some before and after photos..

Glassville Cemetery Project

We would like to thank everyone that has made a donation towards this project. This would not have been possible without your support.
Great progress has happened in spite of the pandemic. The completion of the project is within sight. Shingles on steeple have to be stripped and new installed. Wood on bottom of steeple has to be scraped, repaired or replaced ,primed and painted. Our goal is to have this project completed by mid summer 2022.
Estimated cost to complete project is $7000-$8000.
To date there has been $19,485.00 in donations and again thank you to all that contributed.
Expenses to date have been: $21221.00 . Balance being -1736.00
With balance owing and estimated cost to complete, we need to raise another $9000-$10,000.
The cost to restore the stain glassed window and construct the display is not include in the costs mentioned. This cost is being donated in memory of Clarence and Jessie McIntosh.

I received an email from David Thompson who would like to gather information about the history of Glassville. He would appreciate any info or photos any of you might have.
Below is a copy of his email.
Good afternoon. I got your email address from the Glassville United Church Cemetery page. My name is David Thompson. My mother-in-law Edna Millie and my late father-in-law Irvine Millie were born in Glassville, as were there forebears, tracing their roots to the earliest Glassville settlers.

After Irv's interment in 2018 I made plans to build a website to record and preserve Glassville's history and to make it available for the descendants of Glassville families. I have finally gotten my act together and have a site in progress at https://glassville.ca

I would be grateful if you would post about it on your page and note especially that I would like to receive photos for the Memories section. Photos of early families, buildings and showing the way of life in farms and agriculture especially.

I would also like to include a plot map of the cemetery if you know of one. I have also sent a note to Brian McIntosh about that.

Best regards,
David

Progress Report of the Glassville United Church Cemetery:
as of Dec 1,2020

The Glassville United Church and Hall were demolished and the site was cleaned up this Spring. The vault has had a facelift (painted, door repaired and new vents);a concrete pad was poured for the steeple and bell. The church bell has been restored and installed on one of the pads. The steeple has been placed over the bell. However, no restoration of the steeple has been started. A second pad has been poured for displaying the restored church window. Fencing ( donated by another local cemetery) has been installed from the vault, across in front of the 2 concrete pads. Through generous donations and volunteers, this has been accomplished.
The display for the window and the restoration of the steeple will be completed in the spring.
Saying that, more funds will be required to bring this very worthwhile project to completion.
