We are approaching the last long weekend of the summer season - Labour Day weekend. The Labour Day holiday is a statutory holiday which is held every year on the first Monday of September. The holiday pays tribute to the labour movement and to
past workers who changed the landscape of the workforce by fighting for better conditions for workers in all lines of work. Over the years, we have seen dramatic changes in hours worked, wages paid and safety in work environments as well as the legalization of unions. We have seen legislation governing most, if not all, of these changes. We also have seen that some of these changes were not without cost,at times, to the workers (and their families) who were trying to initiate change. Mental, physical and financial hardship was often part of staying the course. We are grateful for these early warriors who sacrificed their time and energy and so much more to improve the lives of those who labor. We are also grateful for the workers today who continue to fight the good fight for their fellow man. This is every worker's day! So whether you are retired, currently working or whatever your story is, take some time for yourself this weekend to recharge, relax and stop and smell the roses. You are appreciated and deserve it!

Setting up for the clothing market tomorrow!
Don't forget- 10am to 12 noon !!!!!

08/26/2026

Our Clothing Market takes place this coming Saturday(the 29th) from 10 am to 12 noon. It is timed to coincide with the return to school and work (for the seasonally employed) and the beginning of cooler weather which requires, inevitably, warmer clothing. The purpose of the market is to provide those on low incomes and very tight budgets the opportunity to get gently used,"new to them" outfits to begin September off in style. This can be accomplished for the amazing price of $5 for as many items as can be stuffed into a bag! We try to have an assortment of children's and adult's apparel available in a variety of sizes and , to this end, we have been requesting donations of clothing for several weeks now. If you have clothing items you would like to donate, it is not too late. Message this page or add to the comments. You can also call any of the numbers in our announcements below or drop the items off at the church Friday afternoon when the ladies are setting up for the market. All donations will be greatly appreciated .
The Clothing Market is another project of our very dedicated Outreach Committee and our congregation is grateful to them for all of their efforts in assisting the community.

This week's post is a tribute to our congregation and to the people and businesses in our community. Last weekend we hosted the New Aberdeen Summer Festival which was well attended and a great success. There was something for everyone regardless of age and many lovely comments were received from those who attended. We thank the Outreach Committee, the volunteers, the Community members who came to the events, those who provided entertainment and those who made donations of time, items or money. Since we amalgamated to become Glace Bay United Church, it has been our goal to make our presence known in the community through being good neighbours and being helping hands to one and all. We are blessed with a vibrant, energetic congregation whose members
are frequently coming up with new ways to improve the lot of others. Along with that, we are fortunate to have the leadership of a minister (Rev. Dana Feltmate) who is always open to suggestions and ideas and is an amazing resource and guide for us. (And is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and dig in where needed). Our Outreach Committee works very hard in planning and organizing several of the events that take place at our church and our congregation members are ready, willing and able to help out at a moment's notice. However, there is still one more very important ingredient which makes our efforts the success that they are- YOU - the public. Without your support and the support of the businesses in this wonderful community, we would not be able to carry out as many projects as we do. Community involvement is the key that unlocks many doors and assists us in bringing our plans to fruition . Thank you for validating our community endeavours! And thanks to the following:
Donations:
Tom Urbaniak, Paul Nickituk,Cape Breton Credit Union,Pharmasave, Foodland, Sobeys, SuperValue,Domino's, Cletus's Convenience. Activities:
(Music) Jackie Ettinger and Gerald Aucoin, Moonlight Faces(Face Painting), Cape Bouncy Rentals, Cold Blooded Adventure.
The volunteers who barbecued and made breakfast and the CBRM for supplying the tents.
New Aberdeen Revitalization Society assistance .

**Don't forget the Clothing Market on August 29th. Children's and adult's clothing- $5 a bag. 10 am to 12 noon. **
