Community Unity Doing Good in our Neighbourhood
CUHH is doing what they do best and embodying the spirit of giving in order to ensure they are making a difference to their neighbours in need.
At the inaugural Easter Basket Brigade event in 2019, over 150 volunteers sorted, packed and delivered over 600 bags of groceries to over 160 families. “It was a blessing to see the many hands working together in unity doing God’s work” said Rev. Grant Williams at St. Andrews United Church.
Sadly, fast forward to 2020 as many Halton Hill’s residents are loosing their jobs due to COVID-19, Community Unity Halton Hills this year, is taking a different approach and have been reaching out to their community leaders and ministerial to encourage a steady supply of food keeps coming in to fill the Georgetown Bread Basket shelves. They have redirected their efforts, resources, funds and mobilized their volunteer team to support not only the Georgetown Bread Basket but also those people who have been identified as being in need during this very challenging and difficult time.
Because of the crisis we are facing in Halton and across the world, there will be a dramatic increase in the number of families and individuals who need emergency food assistance. Food insecurity especially with elderly is predicted to increase within our community and by all accounts may reach an all time high. According to CUHH Director Timothy Chisholm “The need has never been greater for us to give a hand up to our neighbour…”
The CUHH team is working hard and our supporters have stepped up this year in a very big way with donations from parishioners, local business and the support of some very generous partnerships.
We would like to thank all of the Georgetown Ministerial and their congregations for their contributions, Maple Lodge Farms, Burnbrae Farms for stepping up and filling this much needed gap. Providing for those in need and showing the love for our neighbours, is the true test of civilization and fulfilling our calling to serve one another is fundamental in making a difference in our community.
We are seeing how humanity is stepping up with incredible acts of love, kindness, caring and compassion. There are many unsung hero’s within our community, too many to mention, we are doing our small part to help our neighbours weather this storm, so that as a community we have a better chance to survive, fulfill our potential and in due time start rebuilding our lives. When we all do our part, we increase the ability for a more secure future for all and thus our community can focus on staying healthy and safe. In closing Chisholm reflected “CUHH will continue to ensure our neighbours know that we care, not only by word, but more importantly by deed…”
