1 September marks the beginning of the Season of Creation and is observed by many Christians as Creation Day. The Feast of Creation in Christ may be celebrated on 1 September or on the first Sunday in September.

While many churches mark this season through worship and prayer, individuals, families and small groups can also take part through personal prayer, reflection and Bible study.

August 29, the beheading of St. John the Baptist
The Church, having celebrated the earthly birthday of St. John the Baptist on June 24, today honors the anniversary of his martyrdom. Besides our Lord, St. John the Baptist is the only one whose birth and death are thus celebrated.

Today's Gospel relates the circumstances of his ex*****on. He had the courage to blame Herod to his face for the scandal of his illegal union with his sister-in-law Herodias, whose husband was still alive. Herodias contrived to make Herod imprison him and took advantage of an unexpected opportunity to obtain through her daughter Salome the beheading of the saint.

Please join us in praying for the people of Nepal following catastrophic flash floods.

On 26 August, collapsing glacial ice and rock near the Nepal-China border unleashed a torrent of water, mud and debris through Himalayan valleys. Communities in the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts are among the worst affected. Hundreds of people have died, many hundreds remain missing and homes, roads, bridges and places of worship have been destroyed or damaged. Rescue work continues amid the risk of further flooding.

The Anglican Church in Nepal has asked for urgent prayer, following reports that pastors and members of local churches are among those who have died or remain missing. Several churches have also been damaged.

Please pray for all those still unaccounted for, those who are grieving and families in urgent need of shelter, food, clean water and medicine. Pray also for pastors and church leaders serving devastated communities, and for all those leading rescue and relief efforts.

God of compassion,
draw near to the people of Nepal.
Comfort those who mourn,
protect those who remain in danger,
strengthen those searching for the missing
and sustain all who are serving their neighbours.
Bring help, healing and hope to every affected community.
Amen.

I was in the diocese of the Yukon in June for the consecration of Bishop Vincent Fenga and discussions with clergy and lay ministers. The visit was nostalgic as my family had once lived in that diocese, surrounded by boreal forest near the confluence of the Muskwa, Prophet and Fort Nelson rivers.

Save the date on your calendar—September 19, 2026. The Diocese of Ontario Green Group will be hosting their fourth annual conference at Christ Church Kingston.

The conference is titled: 'Eco-Spirituality in Action: Faith, Water and Climate Justice in the Age of AI' with Maryo Wahba of Citizens for Public Justice.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing our communities, but its growing infrastructure also raises important questions about climate justice, water, energy, and the care of creation. This workshop will explore the environmental and social impacts of AI development and consider how communities can respond.

To attend the event, please fill out this RSVP form: https://cpj.ca/events/eco-spirituality-in-action-faith-water-and-climate-justice-in-the-age-of-ai/.

All are welcome to attend. Please bring an item for our plant based potluck lunch. Free will offering.
