“I pray God that he gives me perseverance, and that he will deign that I should be a faithful witness for his sake right up to the time of my passing.” (The Confession of Saint Patrick)

St. Patrick is most revered not for what he drove away from Ireland, but for what he brought, and the foundation he built for the generations of Christians who followed him.

Saint Patrick, secondary patron of the Diocese of Saint John, pray for us!

MARCH is the month of ST JOSEPH and March 19th is the Feast Day of ST. JOSEPH

This pure, humble man was a Prince of the House of David, the royal family from which sprang the Hope of the Nations. He is husband of Mary, the Mother of God, and the earthly father of the Saviour of the world. He was entrusted by God the Father with His greatest treasures, Mary and Baby Jesus, to fulfill His Holy will and help bring the Saviour into the world.

Around the world, Catholics follow a devotion to “the sleeping St Joseph”, placing their intentions under a statue of a sleeping St. Joseph, trusting him to bring their intentions in intercession to Jesus, who will answer all their needs and intentions. This devotion is related to when the Angel appeared to St. Joseph in a dream, as he was contemplating divorcing Our Lady quietly, after learning she was pregnant. The angel told him however not to fear, that Mary was to give birth to the Saviour of the world. St Joseph surrendered fully to God’s will, and the Saviour came into the world. May we let St. Joseph take care of our problems and intentions while we sleep.

Join us in this devotion at St Mary Magdalene Parish throughout the rest of March by placing your prayer intentions, any time in March, in the Prayer Box to the Sleeping St Joseph (placed before the St Joseph side altar at the left front of the Church; pencils and paper provided). If possible, join us Friday nights in March before evening Mass - the prayer box will be moved to the front of the church during this time and a rosary to St Joseph prayed over the box of intentions by all of us in attendance. Then see your intentions answered according to the will of God, through the powerful intercession of St Joseph and our faith. Every prayer is answered by God to our highest good, as we submit like the gentle St Joseph to the will of God. All intentions in the prayer box will be burned once prayed over.
