Right about now, in a world torn apart by war and division and unrest in so many places, we need to hear this. Sit up. Listen. Take note. Hear once again the first words Jesus spoke to his gathered disciples after the Resurrection, the very words in this Sunday's Gospel: "Peace be with you."

It doesn't get much simpler than that, does it? Above all else, this is what Jesus wanted his friends to know, what he wanted his frightened followers to hear.

No wonder "they rejoiced when they saw the Lord." Suddenly, everything changed. The pieces came together. Something new had begun.

Blessings today at 9 am mass of Father Abraham on his 15 years as a priest. Thanks also to the Knights of Columbus council 6363 for blessing mothers and expectant mothers with carnations at all the masses

Rev. Abraham Kuyili Durai, SAC, Associate Pastor serving the faithful across multiple parish communities in Alberta, marks 15 years of faithful priesthood — years dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel, serving with compassion, and walking alongside God’s people in faith. 🙏

Ordained to the Priesthood on May 10, 2011, Fr. Abraham continues to faithfully minister to parish communities with humility, prayer, and pastoral care.

Lord, send holy and generous men to serve Your Church as faithful priests. Grant them courage to answer Your call and perseverance to follow it with joy.

Jesus and his countrymen were very familiar with sheep. In today’s Gospel reading Jesus says, ‘‘the sheep hear his [the shepherd’s] voice, as he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.’’

Jesus continues the image: ‘‘He walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.’’

Jesus, our shepherd, is always calling us by name to come follow him.

May we always recognize his voice.
