Addiction is a medical condition, and no one should have to face it alone.

At Markaz Ul Islam, we believe in building a community rooted in compassion, understanding, and hope. By supporting one another without judgment, we can help break the silence and remind those struggling that support is always within reach.

Together, we can build a stronger, more caring community.

โœˆ๏ธ For anyone in their first year here ,and for everyone who has forgotten what that year was like.

Arriving in a new country is described as an opportunity. It is also, quietly, one of the most destabilising things a person can go through.

You lose your language, or most of it. You lose your qualifications, or the recognition of them. You lose your standing, the engineer who is now driving, the physician who is now studying for exams at forty-five, the teacher whose credential does not transfer.

You lose the network that made ordinary life possible. In your old country, a problem meant a phone call to someone who knew someone. Here, a problem means a hold queue.

And you lose the version of yourself that other people recognised.
WHAT MAKES THE FIRST YEAR HARDEST:

๐ŸŒฟ Everything takes four times as long, and nobody tells you which steps matter.
๐ŸŒฟ The winter, if you arrive in one. Nothing prepares you for it.
๐ŸŒฟ Watching your children adapt faster than you, and feeling both proud and left behind.
๐ŸŒฟ Being spoken to slowly and loudly by people who mean well.
๐ŸŒฟ Missing people you cannot visit, and events you cannot attend.
๐ŸŒฟ The loneliness of having no one who knew you before.

None of that is a failure to adjust. It is the actual weight of what you did, and it deserves to be named.

HOW WE HELP:
โœ… Practical navigation, schools, healthcare, banking, transit, licensing, employment services, and the questions you do not know to ask.
โœ… Connection into the community, so you have somewhere to be that is not your apartment.
โœ… Support for the emotional side of settlement, which almost nobody offers and everybody needs.
โœ… Confidential. No cost. You do not need to be Muslim.

AND TO THOSE WHO ARRIVED YEARS AGO:

You remember who helped you. Be that person now. Notice the family standing at the back after Jumu'ah who does not know anyone. Ask their name. That is the whole intervention.
