What a joy last Sunday was with the Confirmation of our son Joshua. What a joy this Sunday was, but for a whole different reason.
For the first Sunday since the Pandemic was announced we worshiped our Saviour and Lord maskless. We prayed, read, sang, engaged in the liturgy just as we've done (except for those first five months when we were all shut out of our worship spaces and forced to Zoom it) since Covid pounced. But this Sunday we could see smiles.
Oh, people can still wear a mask if they wish, and the hand sanitizer still hangs at the door (if we've learned anything washing hands a bit more cuts down on many of the greably unseen unhealthy bacteria-but also praise God for all the billions of good bacteria out there!).
But seeing smiles and hearing voices unmufulled was a joy!
Next week and every week will also be filled with joy! Why? Because God's people don't stop worshipping (weekly and daily) the God of Life, the Creator of the Universe, the Saviour of our souls, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit when things get tough.
Truth is God promised us tough here on earth, not ease! Ease will only come when sin is dead and that won't be until Jesus returns. Until then, buckle in, tighten up the belt of Truth around your waist (it's way more than embarassing as a Christian to have your spiritual pants fall down-it means you've already been tripped up by the world's, Satan's or your own lies)!
With St. Stephen and all the Holy Martyrs (preaching a summer sermon series on them so they're on my mind) rejoice that life with Jesus is worth living in and dying for.
Rejoice brothers and sisters, we belong to the eternal Victor! Amen and Amen!!!
