Today, the Church joyfully celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and the woman chosen to play a unique role in the mystery of our salvation.

In Mary, we see the beauty of God’s grace at work. Her birth points us toward the coming of Christ, for through her humble “yes” at the Annunciation, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Mary carried in her womb our Saviour, Jesus Christ, and faithfully remained with Him from Bethlehem to Calvary and beyond.

As members of the Church, we turn to Mary with love and confidence, asking her maternal intercession. May she lead us ever more deeply into the heart of her Son and teach us, like her, to treasure God’s Word, trust in His providence, and respond generously to His call.

The Catholic communities of Vermilion and Clandonald celebrated two remarkable milestones: 50 years of Holy Name Parish Church and 100 years of St. Columba Parish.

Parishioners, families, community leaders and friends gathered in thanksgiving for generations of worship, service, friendship and faith. At the heart of the celebration was the Sacrament of Confirmation, as young parishioners received the gift of the Holy Spirit and were welcomed more deeply into the life of the Church.

May God continue to bless these communities for generations to come!

It’s an opportunity to welcome our new shepherd, gather gratefully as the Church of Edmonton, and listen to his hopes for the road ahead.

It’s move-in week for our seminarians!

Among those beginning a new year of formation St. Joseph Seminary is Evin from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary who is in his fourth year. As our seminarians enter this new season of study, prayer, spiritual formation, and discernment, we invite our whole Catholic community to keep them close in prayer.

May the Lord bless all our seminarians, strengthen them in their vocation to follow Christ, and form their hearts after the heart of the Good Shepherd. May their time in seminary deepen their love for the Holy Eucharist, Sacred Scripture, the Sacraments, and the Church, and prepare them to one day serve God’s people with generous and faithful hearts.

Let us also pray for an increase in all vocations — to the priesthood and diaconate, to consecrated and religious life, to holy marriage and family life, and to every vocation through which God calls His people to holiness and service.

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools kicked off the 2026–27 school year today as staff gathered at the St. Joseph Fieldhouse for our annual Division Opening Mass!

While Grade 11 student Josie Fraser (Notre Dame RD) couldn't be there in person, her incredible talent was front and center during the unveiling of our new Division Faith Theme poster! 🎨🎈

Josie’s powerful artwork features a colorful hot air balloon rising into the sky while tethered to a church steeple cross.

Faith (The Church): Anchors us and keeps us steadfast in Jesus.
Hope (The Balloon): Lifts us above life's challenges with joy and optimism.

We are so excited to see how this beautiful theme inspires our students, staff, and community to support one another in the year ahead!

What a joyful milestone for the CouplesforChrist Edmonton Kids for Christ Choir at Good Shepherd Parish as these young singers began their ministry of serving God through music!

This beautiful initiative is a wonderful expression of the Archdiocese’s pastoral priority of Formation for Service to Families and Marriage — accompanying families and creating opportunities for parents and children to grow together in faith, friendship, community, and service.

May this young choir continue to grow in faith and confidence, and may their families be strengthened through this shared journey of service.
