Gospel for the Twelfth Sunday of Summer

One day, a doctor of the law asked Ieshu in order to tempt him: Teacher, what is the greatest commandment of the moral law? Ieshu told him: ‘You shall love God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. That is the first and greatest commandment. The second is similar: you shall love your neighbour as yourself. These two commandments encapsulate the entire moral law.

Jesus called a little child to him and placed him in the middle of the crowd, saying, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever therefore makes himself as little as this child, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives such a little child in my name receives me. But whoever scandalizes one of these little ones, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung round his heart and he were cast into the depths of the sea. Woe to the man through whom scandal comes!
