The Journey Church of God

The Journey Church of God We're really just trying to put people in touch with God, and each other. When it comes right down to it, relationships matter most! Welcome to the Journey!

We are a church filled with people who love God, love people, and love to be together. Because our focus is so much larger than just a specific neighbourhood, our name was chosen to reflect WHO we are, more than where we are. Our primary celebrations happen in the West End of Edmonton, at 10162 - 152 Street on Sundays at 10:30 AM. In addition, we have several Life Groups meeting throughout the we

ek in various parts of the city. We are committed to serving others, both in our city and in other parts of the world, and provide regular opportunities for people to be involved in both. Our life together is a Journey, and together, we are enjoying the ride!

“Walking Through the Psalms”

“The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.” – Psalm 24:1 (NLT)

“Don’t Forget, It’s Not Yours”

Have you ever noticed how extra careful you are with things that aren’t yours? Like when you borrow a car from a friend. You tend to drive more carefully, park in more protected places, and return it washed and filled with gas. Why? It’s not yours. The same is true when you stay at someone’s house. You don’t leave your clothes lying on the floor like you might at home. You don’t leave dishes sitting on coffee tables. You don’t leave crumbs on the couch. You’re careful in the bathroom not to leave a mess. And you wipe your feet when you come in the door. Why? The house isn’t yours.

David points out in our verse today that ALL of life is pretty much like that. None of what we have is actually ours. It belongs to God. We aren’t the owners of anything. We’re just stewards of it. We didn’t bring any of it with us when we came into the world, and we won’t take any of it with us when we leave. How will God feel about the way we handle His stuff? His home that He provides for us, His job that He allows us to have, and His money that He entrusts us to handle? Hopefully, we’re doing that well. After all, it’s not ours.

David takes it a step further. “The world and all its people belong to him.” Hold on, because this is going to hurt a bit. How did you treat your spouse this last week? How about your kids or your parents? How did you treat your neighbors, your fellow employees, or the clerks at the stores where you shop? You see, these people aren’t yours to treat however you want. These people all belong to God. They’re His. He just gives you the privilege (and challenge) of living with them. So be careful how you speak to them. Be gentle as you handle them. Be loving and caring with each of them. They aren’t yours.

One last thing. How have you been treating YOU lately? You see, YOU are one of the people that God owns. You are not your own. God created you. He also purchased you with His own life. Your life is not yours to abuse, yours to despise, or yours to treat cheaply. One day, when you stand before God, you’ll not only have to give an account of how you handled God’s stuff and treated God’s people. You’ll have to account for how you treated YOU. Life is a gift. Treat it as something incredible, wonderful, and precious. And enjoy it to the full the way Jesus wants you to. Just don’t forget it’s not yours. That’s God’s Word for you today.

God’s Word for You Today

“Walking Through the Psalms”

“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love.” – Psalm 5:11-12 (NLT)

“A Prayer for Protection”

I love David’s heart for his people. Our passage today is about David’s desire for God’s protection to be upon His People. Protection. Could you use that today? I’ve talked to many this past week who could. Let me offer this prayer of protection for you.

“Lord, I pray you would spread your protection over your people today. I pray for those who are in abusive marriages and relationships. I pray that you will watch over them and keep them safe. I pray that their children would be shielded, in body, mind, and spirit. Let them not be damaged by the anger and actions of others. Enfold them in your love.”

“I pray for those who are going through surgeries and procedures this week. We’re grateful for the medical care we receive and the incredible time and country we live in where such things are possible. But YOU, O Lord, are the Great Physician. YOU are our Healer. Touch them with Your Hand and bring healing, wholeness, and recovery to their bodies. Let them rest in your grace and power today.”

“I pray for those who are being attacked and falsely accused today. For some, it’s at work. For others, it’s from family, neighbors, or people they thought were friends. For still others they’re being falsely accused by companies who are demanding money. Lord, you know each situation and what is needed for justice to prevail. Hold each of these in Your Hands and protect them. Guide their words. Control their reactions. Give them the assurance of your vindication. Be their Advocate, O Lord.”

“And Lord I pray for protection over our wandering children and grandchildren. Protection for those who are making unwise choices. Protection for those who are being tempted by the Enemy. Protection for those who are bound by addictions. Lift them out. Wake them up. Bring them home. You love them even more than we do, Father. Sn**ch them from the Enemy’s hand, and bring them back to their senses. Bring them back to US.”

“Father, we thank you today for your amazing love and grace. May your mercy fall upon all of us today as a divine blanket of protection. In the precious name of Jesus we pray, amen.”

That’s God’s Word for you today.
