Summer Solstice Gathering and Labyrinth Walk
Sunday, June 21st at 7:00pm

Join us as we mark the longest day of the year with a Summer Solstice gathering and labyrinth walk. Through music, reflection, and the ritual of the labyrinth, we’re invited to explore the wisdom of light: what it reveals, what it nourishes, and how it invites us to live with openness and intention.

Following the brief gathering, all are invited to walk the labyrinth, taking time to move at your own pace, reflect, and connect with the rhythms of the season.

All are welcome.

The conversation about Gender‑Inclusive Washrooms has been part of the work of SSUC for nearly two years and recently, significant behind‑the‑scenes work has taken place to develop a clear, concrete, and affordable plan, one that we could bring forward to the congregation for learning, discussion, and discernment.

As part of this work, we are engaging with Room for Everyone, a resource from Egale Canada that supports communities in understanding why inclusive washrooms matter and how to create them thoughtfully. The guide reminds us that many trans and gender‑diverse people continue to face barriers, discomfort, or even safety concerns in gendered washrooms. Visit and read this resource at https://egale.ca/awareness/inclusive-washrooms/ and some hard copies are available at the SSUC lobby for those who wish to borrow them.

Inclusive washrooms are one meaningful way we can support dignity, belonging, and full participation for all who enter our space.

By grounding our decisions in this resource, SSUC is taking an important step in living out our values, ensuring that everyone can move through our building safely, comfortably, and without hesitation.

Did you know that 1 in 5 people experiences a mental health challenge each year?

This year, the SSUC’s team is taking part in the Sashbear Walk to support families affected by mental health challenges.

Walking to help raise awareness and to support programs that give families the tools, skills, and hope they need to thrive.

Through education, community, and compassionate support, Sashbear helps families navigate these challenges together.

We’d love to have more folks join us this year!! We were the second-highest in fundraising last year and we’d love to come out on top. Go to ssuc.info/sashbear to join the team, donate, and learn more about Sashbear.

05/06/2026

May 5 is Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S).

Every year on May 5, red dresses are displayed in windows as a reminder of all the pain experienced by loved ones, survivors, and those lost.

Indigenous people have been targeted at much higher rates when it comes to going missing or being murdered. Statistics consistently show that rates of violence against Métis, Inuit and First Nations people are much higher than those for non-Indigenous people in Canada, even when all differentiating factors are accounted for.

This violence against Indigenous people is systemic and is a national crisis that requires urgent, informed and collaborative action.

Indigenous women make up 16% of all female homicide victims and 11% of missing women, even though Indigenous people make up only 4.3% of the population of Canada (source: Assembly of First Nations).

Some words from the UCC …

“We grieve with families and communities who carry loss and unanswered questions.
We lament the systems of racism and colonialism that continue to cause harm.
May the red dresses we see today call us to accountability and hope—
until every life is honoured, and all people can live in peace.”
