WELCOME & GATHERING
The Book of Genesis 1:1-5
When God began to create the heavens and the earth, the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.
Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
And God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

PRAYER OF APPROACH
By Rev. Cheryl Dibeela of Gaborone, Botswana
Dear God, our builder, You have all the building materials needed to construct our societies.
You have all the strength to put wisdom on all that has fallen apart in our lives.
You have the wisdom to reshape our world.
Inspire us with all Your wisdom, strength and love, to rebuild the broken walls in our community
Amen
A UNITED CHURCH CREED
We are not alone, we live in God’s world.
We believe in God
Who has created and is creating
Who has come in Jesus,
The Word made flesh
To reconcile and make new
Who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church
To celebrate God’s presence
To live with respect in Creation
To love and serve others
To seek justice and resist evil
To proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us
We are not alone.
Thanks be to God.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION & ASSURANCE OF GRACE

For an algorithm, an error is a flaw to be corrected.
For a person, however, an error can be a catalyst for profound change.
Pope Leo XIV, “Magnifica Humanitas”
God, we confess
You saw Your act of creation and celebrated that it was good
Alas we decided it was not good enough for us
We corrupted Your creation to fulfill our desires
We wounded Your precious gift
God, forgive us
Heal us, so we may work with You to restore what we have broken
(Silence)
God have mercy
Christ have mercy
God have mercy
God, thank You
Let us pray
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory
Forever and ever
Amen

RESPONSIVE READING
PSALM 8
O God, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants You have founded a bulwark because of Your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established
What are humans that You are mindful of them, mortals that You care for them?
Yet You have made them a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them dominion over the works of Your hands.
You have put all things under their feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
O God, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!
