Today we celebrated the life of our beloved Laksiri Goonewardene. What stood out most was that every person who spoke, family, friends, colleagues, church members, described the same man: kind, generous, faithful, wise, humorous, and always willing to help others. The consistency of their stories revealed the true measure of his character. He lived a life that pointed people toward Christ and left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Affectionately known as Uncle Laksiri, he was born in Sri Lanka and called Edmonton home for over 45 years. He and his wife, Rohini, have been faithful members of ZAMIE since 2008. Together, they served as leaders and hosts of the All Nations Cell Meeting, and Uncle Laksiri also assisted with the community dinners at our outreach ministry in North Edmonton.

In his professional life, Laksiri worked as a Professor at the University of Alberta and as a Research Scientist with Alberta Agriculture. Despite his academic accomplishments, he carried a simple and practical approach when teaching the Word of God at the All Nations Cell Meetings.

Uncle Laksiri had a generous heart and a deep compassion for those in need, from new immigrants to families facing difficult times. Many of us were treated to scrumptious meals at the Goonewardenes along with live comedy shows featuring Uncle Laksiri.

Though our hearts are grieving, we hold on to the blessed hope that we will see our beloved Uncle Laksiri again on the shores of glory.

What looked like defeat on the cross was actually Jesus stripping the enemy of his power. Sin, shame, and the curse were nailed to the cross and victory was already won.

We don’t fight for victory. We walk in the victory of Christ.

Resurrection Sunday ✝️

The resurrection is the ultimate verdict. Jesus rose from the dead and with Him came the declaration that our future is secure, our righteousness is established, and our God is all powerful.

No grave could hold Him. No darkness could stop Him.
Because He lives, nothing is too hard for the Lord.

From broken beginnings to a life poured out for the Kingdom, the journey of Pastor Daniel Batela is a living testimony that grace can rewrite any story.

Born into hardship and shaped by years of loss, rebellion, and spiritual darkness, his life once seemed destined for destruction. Yet in the mercy of God, one divine encounter changed everything. What was once a life entangled in crime and despair became a vessel of healing, deliverance, and restoration. Even in the depths of prison, hope did not die, revival was born, and many encountered Christ through his obedience.

It was an honour to have our TAMI Cameroon Pastor at ZAMIE. When he ministered among us, he did not just share a testimony, he demonstrated the undeniable power of God that transforms hearts, restores destinies, and raises men from the lowest places into divine purpose. Today his ministry continues to reach nations, communities, and forgotten places, building lives, discipling generations, and establishing hope where there was once none. His story reminds us that God does not call the qualified; He transforms the willing.

No past is too dark, no failure too great, and no life beyond the reach of divine purpose. When God writes your story, every chapter reveals His glory.
