This Sunday (January 26, 2025) at church we studied the topic of "The Communicable Attributes of God."
We explored the communicable attributes of God, focusing on His wisdom, love, goodness, and holiness. These attributes are not only inherent to God but are also shared with us, inviting us to partake in His divine nature. We began by reflecting on God's wisdom, which orchestrates all things for His glory and the good of creation. This wisdom is evident in the creation of the world and the plan of salvation, which, though it may seem foolish to the world, is the power and wisdom of God for those who believe.
We then delved into the eternal and self-giving nature of God's love. Unlike human love, which often seeks something in return, God's love is sacrificial and unconditional, demonstrated supremely in the giving of His Son for our salvation. This love calls us to value our relationship with God above all else, recognizing that the greatest gift He offers is Himself.
The goodness of God was another focal point, emphasizing that He is the source of all good things. His grace, mercy, and patience are expressions of this goodness, offering forgiveness and compassion to those who do not deserve it. We are encouraged to reflect these attributes in our own lives, showing mercy and patience to others as God does with us.
Finally, we considered the holiness of God, which sets Him apart from all creation. His moral purity and separateness call us to a life of holiness, distinct from the world. This involves separating ourselves from ungodly influences and practices, striving for purity in our relationships and actions. God's holiness is a shared attribute, inviting us to partake in His purity and righteousness.
