First Baptist Church Edmonton

First Baptist Church Edmonton Seeking the peace and well being of the city These include, but are not limited to, racism, sexism, homophobia, colonialism, and classism.

First Baptist Church, Edmonton, is a Christian community in the Baptist tradition, celebrating together our life as the people of the living God. Celebrating the God-given worth of every person, we seek to worship and act in solidarity with people displaced, silenced, and harmed by injustice. We have much to learn as we undertake the difficult work of healing relationships damaged by our complicit

y with, and indifference to, forms of oppression. We are committed to learning from the lived experiences of others, engaging in critical self-reflection, and ongoing spiritual formation.

What a difference! Today marks the one year anniversary of the fire at FBC. While none of us reveled in the last year of being displaced and having to replace so many items, we are very grateful that no one was harmed a year ago and that we now have a lovingly restored building to celebrate in. We also recognize the care we received from so many, especially Christ Church that welcomed us in for ten months. We have much to be thankful for.

Some of the questions we will explore:

TWO EVENINGS WITH HAROLD ROSCHER
Tuesday, January 27 & February 3
7:00-9:00 pm at the church

Join us to continue our discussion about ways of turning our conversations about Truth and Reconciliation into real action and engagement. Harold Roscher, of the Saddle Lake Cree First Nation in Alberta, is director and chaplain at the Edmonton Native Healing Centre, and a pastor with the Christian Reformed Church. He regularly serves as an educator and guide for churches like ours, and we look forward to his time with us.

We have an exciting day before us on Saturday the 13th! Those who are available, will gather at FBC at 9:30 and unpack some things! We will provide coffee and some snacks, but as we have no idea how many will come, if some people could also bring snacks to share for the morning, that would be greatly appreciated. (Note: We have no stoves, microwaves or refrigerators yet.)

Rooms to be unpacked:
Nursery
4, 5, 6 Room (The 1,2,3 Room is being prepped and painted next week)
The Children's Resource Room
Kitchen (So many boxes to be unpacked!)
Parlour Kitchen

To preserve the floors and carpets in their clean state, we ask that you bring indoor shoes or slippers and change footwear at the door. Thank you for helping us with this. Please enter the office door entry.

We hope to accomplish as much as possible, while also knowing that this is a marathon, not a sprint. We are grateful for every bit we get done.
