St. Vladimir's Russian Orthodox Church The purpose of this page is to share the parish life of St Vladimir's Russian Orthodox Church in Edmonton. At one point he took care of about 40 parishes.

In the 1930s, Archbishop Ioasaph Skorodumoff of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia came to Edmonton and purchased the current church building. He added on a residence, digging out the basement by hand and constructing a living area for himself with two small rooms and a workroom where he painted icons. Archbishop Ioasaph endured many deprivations while working tirelessly to establish pa

rishes in Alberta. He established a convent and a men’s skete. He constructed buildings and roads himself, planted gardens, chopped firewood for the winter and also constantly attended to the pastoral needs of parishioners scattered throughout the province. He was revered for his pious lifestyle and numerous missionary labours to expand and support Orthodoxy in the Western Diocese. His powerful prayers were known to heal sicknesses and even call down rain upon parched fields.
