We are now halfway through the Easter season! Swipe through to see some pictures portraying the unique liturgies that we celebrate at Holy Week, particularly the Triduum. The Triduum itself ends with the Easter celebration, the climax of the Liturgical year.

We hope that you continue to carry the joy and graces received during Holy Week as we continue living our lives in this latter half of the Easter Season and enter Ordinary time. We do look forward to celebrating Mass with you every Sunday at St. John's!

Holy Week starts this Sunday, March 29, with Palm Sunday, recalling Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Later in the week, the Triduum takes place over three days: Holy Thursday, which covers the Last Supper; Good Friday, recounting the Crucifixion; and Holy Saturday or Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate Jesus' resurrection! We, as the faithful, are encouraged to attend all three.

This last weekend was Laetare Sunday and also the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day, so we had a bit of a mid-Lent celebration, St. John's style! The Knights of Columbus hosted their pancake breakfast, there was a draw for a St. Patrick's themed basket, and we had a few seminarians join us for Mass and breakfast. It was a lovely Sunday filled with fun and a bit of luck!

Our Confirmation Candidates' retreat at Newman Theological College was a memorable day that mixed both faith and joy! There were inspiring talks, engaging skits, interactive games, and, of course, reflective prayer relating to the Holy Spirit and His role in the sacraments and our daily lives. We think the pictures speak for themselves, but we won't give away too many details on all that happened, just in case you have a child or grandchild who is doing Confirmation prep next year!

Thank you to our incredible leaders who led talks and small groups, to our parent volunteers for ensuring a seamless transition between sessions, and finally, a huge thank you to Sophie and Linda for creating an amazing retreat for our Candidates. We invite you to continue praying for them as they will receive the sacrament of Confirmation later this month!

We are officially halfway through Lent, and it just so happens to be the weekend before St. Patrick's Day!

With the latter in mind, the Knights of Columbus will be hosting their Pancake Breakfast this Sunday, March 15, after the 9 am and 10:30 am Masses. We hope you can join other families of the parish for a morning of faith and friendship!

Our Lenten Penitential will be taking place tonight. If you have young children, you are invited to come at 5 pm to accommodate early bedtimes. Otherwise, everyone is invited to come at 7 pm, where the evening will start with a reflection led by Troy Davies.

If you need some resources to prepare, our website has some links to (re)introduce reconciliation and possible examinations of conscience that you can use to prepare in advance.

Last Sunday, the Gianna Centre stopped by St. John's to sell soups, some of which are perfect meals for the meatless Fridays of Lent. We, of course, advertised the soup sale in classic SJE fashion - with a skit! Thank you to everyone who supported the Gianna Centre by purchasing soups or making a donation.

Starting tomorrow, Friday, February 20, at 7 pm, join other parishioners of St. John the Evangelist to pray the Stations of the Cross.

The Stations of the Cross is a common prayer that recalls Jesus' final steps to his death on the Cross. Each Friday of Lent will be led by a different ministry or group of the parish, each praying the Stations in a way that reflects their own charisms (in the past, the Women's Bible Study has a scriptural take, SSVP focuses on service, etc.). We pray you can join us for one or all Fridays of Lent to pray this important devotion leading up to the Triduum.

On the last Sunday of January, the Knights of Columbus hosted their Pancake Breakfast! Thank you to everyone who attended, the volunteers from St. Rose, and our cooks, Shelley and Aimee, for making this a joyful Sunday where parishioners can gather together in fellowship!

It's back - we invite you all to the first Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast of the new year! On Sunday, January 25, stay after the 9 am and 10:30 am masses for a delicious breakfast served by our Knights and students of our schools.
