Emancipation Day Service — Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 10:00 am

All are warmly invited to join Pilgrim United Church as we remember, celebrate, and give thanks for the gift of freedom.

Emancipation Day marks August 1, 1834, when the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect across the British Empire, including Canada, legally freeing thousands of enslaved African people. This year marks 192 years since that day.

During this service, we will honour those who suffered under slavery, celebrate the many contributions of Black Canadians, and reflect on our shared call to live with justice, kindness, and equality for all.

As people of faith, we gather to honour this history and continue to walk together with love, respect, and compassion.
